    I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Now - Dune is one of my favourite books, I've seen both the David Lynch film and the Syfy Mini series and have them on DVD.

    The good points:

It is an absolutely stunningly shot film. Every single frame in that movie, you could put up on a wall as a piece of Art.
The Soundtrack is equally amazing. Especially the Sardukaur throat singing.
It's pretty close to the book in terms of it's plot
The casting and acting is great all-round, I can't think of anyone who does a bad job

    The Bad:

It does stretch out some of the visuals, yet it skips some of my favorite bits - if you are familiar with Dune - the banquet scene where various people (Spice Smugglers, Spacing Guild, the Ajudicator of the change etc.) all are talking, but there are some very clear sub-textual conversations going on.
No one has said 'Plans within Plans' yet
Not enough usage of the Litany against Fear.

It's not a perfect adaptation, but I rate it strongly against the other 2.

Hats off to this Trent bloke. Taken a huge gamble but obviously done his homework along the way and worked with right people and suppliers to bring this project to fruition.

It’s traditional car wrecker meets world class logistics/warehousing/process work with a final dusting of eBay and mega data analysis of what people are buying.

It’s like a car factory in reverse. Of note is that insurance companies after selling wrecks to him are then later buying some of the parts back to repair other cars with second hand instead of new parts. He mentions NZ as a country that has been doing this for awhile, it’s a new concept to uk triggered by covid shortages.

Lightbulb How unsafe is nuclear energy really?

A really interesting documentary that goes down the rabbit hole into the safety concerns around nuclear power and if we should really be afraid as many people are (Greenpeace!). There's also a follow-up that looks at how recycling nuclear waste can generate more energy - something Japan already does.

And now for something completely different?

I've been watching 'Joe and Nic's Road Trip' on YouTube. Descriptions like bleak and post apocalyptic are appropriate. I had read that poverty in the US was way worse than could be found in Britain. I'll believe it after watching this. Whole areas with dilapidated abandoned houses. In other towns the abandoned housing has been bulldozed, and the area taken over by weeds. The official euphemism is "urban prairie". In some towns the Main Street looks clean but off Main Street weeds have taken over the footpaths. Crime of course is through the roof.

Whole areas of cities have nothing but abandoned buildings. It's sad because there is some lovely architecture but there's no coming back from that far gone. Nobody can afford to renovate, the city can't afford demolition. It's not just the south, or the inner cities, it happens widely it seems. The show is just a guy talking as he drives around with his camera. He does give statistics but even so it can be a bit slow and I'll admit to jumping ahead if it lacks interest.

We can safely assume that Joe and Nic's Road Trip is not endorsed by the various state tourist departments. These areas don't make it into the movies, the only place you'll see it really is here.

I watch it small doses, too much could be depressing, but it's a whole nutha world.

Appropriate is an understatement, good series but fucking depressing

The world has been duped from day one to keep control on energy supply. Original reactors were mainly to help refine a weapons grade byproduct. They never went down other path/design where there exists the possibility to completely “burn”/exhaust the energy and eliminate hazardous end product.
Also reactor designs have changed to the extent that Chernobyl and Fukushima type events are not possible.
