Last night I spat my G&T out while watching the programme about the teacher with Tourette's. All my teachers were like that.

Then I remembered that we have all the Sky movie channels for free at the moment so watched the new Top Gun film. So so. Would not watch it again yet I have seen the original a few times, must be the humour which was missing this time around IMO.

Watched Snatch again the night before. Great film to be sure.

I warn you against watching Oppenheimer then. As it’s near the McCarthyism ere there’s lots of communism is bad stuff (although oppo himself was left leaning and tried starting a scientists union)

That statement would only make sense if it wasn't solely right wing republicans using it....

No other candidate has made anti-"woke"-ness more central to their candidacy than DeSantis. He's repeated the word over and over and over again at nearly every campaign stop.
"A lot of things going on with our military, with the woke and all this nonsense," he said. "They're not learning to fight and protect us from some very bad people. They want to go woke. They want to go woke."

TV2 Wednesday 00:30 - -1:30 "Hightown" - caught this while browsing, looked interesting enough to D/L the series (8 episodes) Drugs/nudity/sex/police/violence- all the old favourites.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Nah. It's mainly used by fascists and by deluded people who think JFK Jr is alive, and that Biden is dead and is being played by an actor. Desantis is the champion.

Typical straw man response from extreme left.

Fascism is the merger of state and corporate power in a big dictatorship. WhatÂ’s really important is the dictatorship part which was kinda common to that, Nazism and communism. If anything today we have a new blend of reverse fascism where woke corporates do the bidding of govt and get in on the rainbow action.
The socialists on here constantly remind us about how capitalism is evil yet conveniently overlook the creeping fascism where supposedly profit driven companies expend capital out of proportion to the return on woke agendas.
And you all hate right wing Christian countries except our darling Poland who are eager once again to be the ones to trigger world war 4 for the elite.

And for the other chap confused about wokeÂ….. ItÂ’s ok to care about those with less than us, those with misfortune or bad decisions in their lives. ItÂ’s ok to care about creating a cleaner safer and conflict free world. ItÂ’s ok to share resources and help each other out. ItÂ’s ok to educate and help others become independent and productive members of world society.
However itÂ’s not ok for unelected minorities to dictate changes in lifestyles, language, diet, transport mode, taxation, education.

One day you’ll all wake up in the new world of “equality” . Everyone will have absolutely nothing, will work in slave camps like China. No holidays or travel because that hurts the planet. There will be no one to protest your poor conditions or bad treatment because there is no one else. We are all one in the new world of equality. The system doesn’t work if we bring everyone up, equality only happens when everyone has nothing except a piece of dirt to sleep on after your slavery is complete for the day.
Wokeness is popular because people want to be seen doing the right thing in small doses to benefit their social media accounts. But obsessed about their own image while they worship this false idol they are blind to the dark cave the pretty lights lead them into.

If everyone is equal, and everyone has nothing, who are the slaves working for and and who gets what they are producing ?

Ron DeSantis chief anti-woke politician has discovered that polling indicates the majority of people are in favour of being woke. His campaign is badly in need of resuscitation so he has switched from being against woke. He now has a new word, "narrative". It seems he uses that as frequently as he previously used woke.

It might take more than that to reboot his flagging campaign though, but he had to try something.

    Meanwhile back on topic...

You will all be familiar with the work of J K Rowling. After the huge success of her Harry Potter series she wrote a work of fiction for adults. Not an "adult" book in the modern sense. The critics were trampling over each other to rubbish it. New Zealand is not the only place tall poppy syndrome flourishes.

Her response was to publish her next books under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. This new writer of detective fiction was welcomed warmly by reviewers. The actual identity behind the Galbraith name was not revealed until a partner in her law firm disclosed it to a woman at a dinner party. I do not know if Rowling still uses the same law firm. Neither do I know what the lawyer's wife made of his brazen attempt to impress another woman. Or even if this woman, who then blurted it out so that it appeared all over the news media, still gets dinner invites.

To the point, and yes, there is one. The TV series based on first three Galbraith books are available for streaming on ThreeNow. Reasonably standard private detective fare but I'd read the first two books so I started watching these. There are worse things to watch. I know this because I'm currently part way though a couple that are considerably less interesting.
The story follows a wounded Military Police war veteran turned penniless private detective. Not the first time that has been done, but it is done quite well.

    The sequence is:
    The Cookoo's Calling
    The Slkworm
    Career Of Evil

    Two down, one to go...

"Hyena Road" on Netflix. Afghanistan from a Canadian viewpoint. Not that i've been there but seems a bit more realistic than many of the US/Afghan war movies. Conflict between the intel guy who knows how things work and the army people who follow rules. Doesn't end well for some.

Never read Harry Potter or seen any of the films. Not into wizards and shit. Read the first Robert Galbraith book and it was very good. In fact, apart from the second one which I nearly gave up on, they have all been very good and the latest one is nearly 1,000 pages so am saving it for a long flight.

I do prefer Mick Herron and the Jackson Lamb series to be fair, but I am not about to sully the images in my head by watching any adaptations on TV. Caught a short for Jackson Lamb and he was not what I had in my mind. It's like reading a Jack Reacher book and then seeing Tom Cruise playing him on TV.

    Nah.
