There’s another presentation by same crowd different speaker titled Oswald’s last phone call. This is the night before Jack Ruby shoots him the classic one call to your lawyer or wife etc…
He asks to be put through to two numbers (same name but he doesn’t know which initial). It’s articulated that the number is to an intelligence cutout to say hey I’m in trouble here to his bosses via a layer of plausible deniability.
Two agents unknown come to prison exchange and tell girls not to connect the call. One knows this is dodgy takes notes and tucks it away. Later her note surfaces and interesting things happen…

As a bonus at the end of this show the legendary Jim Marrs speaks and takes questions and names a few names.

I do prefer Mick Herron and the Jackson Lamb series to be fair, but I am not about to sully the images in my head by watching any adaptations on TV. Caught a short for Jackson Lamb and he was not what I had in my mind. It's like reading a Jack Reacher book and then seeing Tom Cruise playing him on TV.
    Nah.
Don't know what you were expecting but "Slow Horses" series (3 of) with Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb was really good.

I think because I have read all of the books I have a vision in my head of how he looks, sounds, moves etc etc. If I see how someone else has interpreted all those facets I imagine that it could ruin the enjoyment of any future books for me.

Black Mirrors, on Netflix, episode, Joan is Awful. Fricken hilarious with some great acting by Salma Hayek and Annie Murphy. Recommend!

Ah yes, I've experienced that disappointment. I'd read all of Ian Fleming's James Bond books and was hugely disappointed by the first movie. Eventually I realised it's a different art form so just judge each on their own merits.

Having said that, and having read all of Bernard Cornwell's Uhtred of Bebbanburg series, I had this image in my head of a huge shaggy blonde dude in a bear skin cloak. The guy who played him in "The Last Kingdom" was a dapper dark haired dude. Some adjustment was required.

I will try it going the other way - having watched (and really enjoyed Gary Oldman as Lamb) I'll get the books and see how it matches up. I do understand how books and videos diverge - "The Peripherals"is a good example of this but in that case both formats were still very good as far as I am concerned

I didn't think the books vs movie Bond character lined up until the first Daniel Craig movie, although Pierce Brosnan had the right look

Something a bit different. On the docks at Montgomery, Alabama, a pleasure boat tied up in the wrong place. A black dock employee asked that the boat be moved so that a riverboat casino could dock. The people in the boat had likely been overindulging the recreational chemicals of their choice and a fight ensued. This turned into maybe a six or eight to one beating of the black guy. The dock is a very touristy area adjacent to a pretty park apparently and this action was happening in full view of other people many of whom were black. Some rushed to even up the numbers and support the dock employee. Others started filming the action. Eventually the police arrived and arrested the boaters. Warrants have been issued for others. A black guy who exceeded the bounds pf good taste by hitting a woman with a steel folding chair was also arrested.

The dock area at Montgomery Alabama is very historic it's one of those places with many plaques detailing various historic events. It's where the cotton used to be loaded onto ships - and slaves unloaded. Very historic and regarded somewhat as hallowed ground by black people. Probably not the best place for these boaters to decide to mass attack a black guy.

Anyhoo, there are clips on YouTube if you search "Montgomery dock brawl" you should find several. Fill yer boots.

Fantastic story, great job on the resto and even better to see it not end up in a museum.

Being September lots of 911 stuff in doco feeds….

Here’s a story of a real hero who actions and foresight saved thousands of lives on 911.
Rick Rescorla was a Vietnam hero (although he refused that title because he survived) in one of major battles and his image features on a popular book.
Before the 1993 Van bomb attack he foresaw the risk of the exposed columns in basement carpark. Even though he was director of security the company dismissed his views then boom the van attack happened. As a man that took his job seriously he looked at all the risks to WTC staff and what possible things could happen.
He organised monthly evacuation drills that he made all Morgan Stanley staff do even stock brokers in middle of important trades.
And when 911 happened his planning saved so many then he went back in to help other people out. Great true story of bravery.

Up to book 7 (about half way through) and Gary Oldman still fits the Jackson Lamb image in my head.

This B grade movie was good for a laugh at all the plot holes and no way that’s plausible moments.
Watchable due to decent lighting and half decent acting.
The most incredible part is when the UN opens up with 50 calibre and none of the “ heroes” get hurt. Although the Molotov cocktail air to air heli combat moment comes close along with the bare bell jet ranger having infinite CGI ground attack rockets lol

And he always will. I reckon that if you start reading a book with an image in your mind from a film or TV series then that image will remain whereas if you read the book first you will make up an image which will never match the person cast for the role.

I bet you couldn't read the book of [insert favourite film here] without the characters being exactly as per the film. Try Jaws for example.

(Slow) horses for courses I guess.

Jaws was on the TV last night so I put it on. Kids not having it. Something about me ruining it by saying all the lines all the way through like I do with the Blues Brothers.

Had to watch the Celebrity Gogglebox Pride Week special instead.

    Which was nice.
