Great bike in everything but the name. did no-one in Yamaha marketing ever say it out loud and realise it was an synonym for "boring"?
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

The irony with the tedium moniker is that when they first came out the press raved about them. Sumo supermoto... Not quite. Styled along the lines of the TDR 250.

10 valve twin, piggy back gear box and big bang engine before moto gp... Who'da thunk it?

They were the best selling bike in Europe for quite a few years, probably knocked off the perch by a GS.

I've been trying to find a blog about a UK couple who rode to NZ and back to blighty again on the same TDM, it's an epic read!

IIRC Over did a full system with larger volume headers giving noticeably more torque. And sound lurvely.

Yeah, I'm a fan boi, got a 96 in the shed and consider it to be bang on for NZ. Tours perfectly, great fun in the twisties and surprisingly good on gravel. Love the motor.

At some point mine will pop up here looking for a new home as the T7 has really caught my fancy as a replacement, I'm getting dirtier as I get older.

Good luck with the sale OP, great bikes for people who really like riding.

Should of stuck some TRX cams in when the engine was in bits.

In 1996 ... instead of the previous 360 engine Yamaha released the Mk II TDM with updated bodywork and a 270 firing order engine that was originally fitted in the 1995 TRX850 ... they also shared the same transmission.

Which engine was fitted to your bike ... ??

This bike has the original 1996 270 degree TDM engine.
As mentioned, a few jobs were done to the engine to freshen up the top end.
Will be good for many many more km's.
I have a feeling that the whole exhaust system might be the larger OVER one, not just the mufflers.

But much better reliability and lower costs.

    Yes, the TRX850.

Interesting that Yamaha did not make a TRX900 with updated suspension and fairings and stuff, when they launched the TDM900.
