And some mystery points found as well but that dam carving is stymying me. Should be on the Kaikoura Coast but damned if I can spot it.

re the coastal mystery. Don't make the mistake of thinking that its north of KK.
To anyone that ever told you you’re no good… They’re no better.

I knew that much. I narrowed it down to just north of the Oaro River. I have now found out that it was built after the google maps car went through last so am now going to check using the surroundings/signs in the photo.

Found it using the power pole and guard rail. Doesn't quite look the same on street view but definitely the right place.

The mystery that is giving me grief is the Otago one. It seems familiar, but I just can't place it. Not that I need it, my route has enough points without it.

My route doesn't 'need' it, but my determination to include it does. That one took a while to find...

    Check out www.tt2000.org

Basically, for 2022 you start in Blenheim at midday on Friday, and finish at Tokoiti (near Milton) by midday on Sunday and choose your own route of at least 2000 km. There are a large number of checkpoints on the way with points values from 30 to 250 points per checkpoint and you need at least 2000 points by the end of the ride. Details and locations of each checkpoint are on the website. Each province has a pair of compulsory checkpoints, and your route must include 2 of these pairs, so for Canterbury these would be OKains Bay (you love that road) and Mt Cook. There are also 5 mystery checkpoints where the location is not given and these are worth 150 points each.

    Do it, You'll love it.

Sort of. Okains Bay is 250 points because you have to go well off the main roads to get there. Chertsey is only 40 points because it is practically right on the Main road. Duntroon is 75 points because it will take you off the main road, but may be on your route elsewhere.
