XTRA - useless at blocking spams

So how many of you are still hanging in there using prehistoric 'xtra.co.nz' for your personal emails. I have had mine since the beginning so reluctant to change, partly can't be bothered with the hassle either. Used to work fine for the first decade or so. But holy crap the last few years has seen xtra let through a dozen or more spams a day to my email. It's getting worse.

There is a silver lining though. I am about to become incredibly rich. Only this morning I got emails from two 'team casino' destinations offshore that I have won tens of thousands of dollars just by being a member. The jokes on them. I haven't even joined their casino club, ha. I'll take their money though. This morning I won $900,500 in something I also didn't even invest in. Bloody amazing this internet. Gotta love it making us all rich without having to work.

The annoying ones are daily reminders and alerts that I have been infected and need to renew my McAlfee or Norton protection. Or failed courier deliveries I need to verify. I've received 7 crap messages so far this morning. In Xtra's defense I do see in my spam folder that they do intercept dozens of crap messages a day so they are trying I guess.

So many bloody con artists out there.

I'd hazard a guess that whatever Spam Filtration is used on that platform has been EoL for a while now, receives no (or infrequent) updates as it's a legacy platform and so as new Spam techniques emerge to bypass the current filtering methods, they will eventually find their way to your inbox.

That's not fair OAB. You are missing out on lots of money and unexpected courier parcels from your lost Uncles in Romania and Uzbekistan. Let me circulate your address to these generous friends and relatives I didn't even know I had around the world and you can share in the benefits.

But seriously it is good to hear that their filters are working for you. Same here for me until about 2 or 3 years ago and now it is snowballing. The Missus created her own email with gmail and doesn't get any spam. Maybe it's because I am a massive fan of Monty Python- SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM AND MORE SPAM. Monty Python were apparently the origin of the use of the word for being bombarded with unwanted messages. They have given us so much culture.

It's not "really" XTRA mail as such is it?

    https://smxemail.com/our-company/blo...ail%20platform.

(I'm not complaining; finally killed off my old xtra account (one of several) when I moved off Spark to a different broadband provider, no point paying the extra to keep the old email address.

It's supposed to have stopped working by now, but still does. Handy in case someone uses a very old address for me.

I never got much spam at all on that address, even when it was my main address years ago.)

Ha! SMX was an NZ company formed for the very purpose of email filtering / spam blocking. They used to make a really good firewall. and a company I was with used one. Was good that if there was a problem it was possible to talk directly with the developer. Spark (nee Telecom) used to remarket them and IIRC invested quite a lot of money in SMX to enable growth. Things were going ok-ish then Spark wanted it's money back and put SMX into receivership. We had to scramble pretty quick to keep the email alive.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

What? No 'Get a larger penis' spam? Although i've not had one for ages either. I guess they must have given up on me as a lost cause.

Dear god, stop using Xtra, it's been shit for ages.
Whenever a client says they have issues emailing Xtra I tell them to ask the client for another email address. Stuff that was working fine, stops working, yet spam always gets through.

Want to troubleshoot that? Hah, Xtra won't lift a finger until the account owner approves it (who I have no contact with). Even if they blocked it and could fix it... nope. If by some chance I can actually get them to investigate, they have never followed up. Never, not once.

Absolutely useless. I encourage everyone to shift to Gmail or something. Nothing is 100% perfect (especially free), but Xtra is useless. Remember Vodafone shut all it's services down, ihug etc, so Spark could do the same (and I wish they would).

This morning I got a msg on WhatASap from some hot Asian gurl. Hi Alan, I haven't contacted you in a while. . .
Well. Jokes on her. I'm not Alan. Maybe if I send her a DickPic she will want to marry me instead?
Donald Trump is the biggest dick I can think of, so. . .

I mean the Sap is set up on your email. Do they really think that they dialed the wrong whats number and got you. The lucky Devil. Instead? I didn't read the msg, butt fuck sake.

That brings back memories. I used to get a lot of 'get a bigger penis' and debt consolidation ads. I thought somebody knew me.

Get very little spam in my email lately, although somebody apparently left me a million and a half dollars yesterday.

Xtra must be pretty random on the spam filtering then

I've had trouble getting emails through to people on xtra, as it seems to see a bunch of messages from the same address as spam and block them, the send mechanism is automated but they are still personalised to the receiver.

Well you are not sharing in the millions my unknown uncle is sending me. He's a high ranking colonel in the Nigerian Army and controls most of their oil production so the jokes on you! And I'm using your credit card to expedite the transfers.
