    New Arrival

    Hi,

I'm looking to get some help and advice.

I am from the UK originally, currently in Sydney, moving to New Zealand (wellington) in the new year.

I raced motocross for 10 years up until the age of 19 I am now 28 and have been telling myself for the last 8 years I will get myself back on a bike with a motorcycle license with the intention of enjoying some laid back trail/adventure/enduro riding.

I've recently decided it will be the perfect time and place to make this dream happen once I arrive in NZ.

I have researched the licensing process but have found my self a little confused a times, so to put it simply my question is, what will it cost me to legally ride a motorcycle on the road?

I am also after some bike recommendations, initially all I wish to do is commute so I would be looking for something cheap, reliable and readily available.

    Thanks in advance!

I have no idea having been familiar in the 90s what it meant being in rider training.

Silver bullet has trail rides. But a little screwed up due to covid irregularities still felling their effects.

Over the Wairarapa will fill you with more joy than then entire British Isles
Don't you look at my accountant.

You'll start with our graduated licensing system: https://www.nzta.govt.nz/driver-lice...e/motorcycles/

Two main paths, the accelerated one (CBTA) with more focus on skills, or the regular longer way. Both ways allow you to do it quicker when you're 25+.

ACC also funds Ride Forever, for upskilling: https://www.rideforever.co.nz/

Thanks thats starting to make more sense now, from what I can gather I can have a learner license for around $300 (license fee and basic handling assessment)

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The age thing was another question I had as I know there is a similar 25+ rule in the UK. However i'm not too worried about time frames at the minute it's more cost I'm interested in.

It might pay to pop into the local licensing centre to have costs and procedure clarified.

Meanwhile, here is a list of LAMS approved bikes. Plenty of choice for going off piste.
