What is becoming worrying is that he thinks he knows about international politics. Cutting Starlink off on the Ukraine to "avoid starting a nuclear war" is one thing. Calling Taiwan an integral part of China separated by a temporary arrangement is quite another.
This may of course have been him brown-nosing China to try and get X back on line in that country. But it seems in line with his beliefs.

I seem to recall the US has quite severe penalties for it's citizens indulging in unofficial international diplomacy.

This is not the first time Musk has floated the idea of charging. He said that when he took it over. The move would be unusual in that it would be charging the people who create the content. It being the users who create the content.

The blue tick used to confirm that the person you were reading was in fact who they claimed to be. Now, if you haven't heard of the person, it just indicates that the user is likely MAGA. If Xitter (pronounced shitter) introduces a charge it will become just another Parler or 'Troth Senshal'. This morning there are posts discussing the wisdom of giving Xitter your bankcard details. Strangely some people don't feel it can be trusted.

Meanwhile we wait to see which of the alternatives builds the required critical mass.

Yes I know he mentioned it as a possibility when he took over, and the changes he has made, but now it appears to be actually going from just talk. I do think the fears about handing over card details are without much merit though, plenty of users already do with no issues.

If he tries to charge everyone, he will have to change the name from "X" to "ex" as it will be most peoples ex social media account.

Haha yup. I've been using Twitter since 2009 but as I use it very rarely now when free there's no way I'm paying for it.

I've been there since 2010. I visit most days but much less now than I used to. It used to be the great news source. Now, not so much.

There are people who are familiar and I'm always pleased to see their tweets. Increasingly though there are random MAGA people I'm not so pleased to see. Meanwhile it is nowhere near the news source it used to be. If Musk was planning on killing it, his plan is working. A user charge should pretty much finish it off.

Speaking of MAGA people I don't like, there's Dan Bongino. The exchange below made me smile. Moron. Maybe he should Google Stephen King?

Well, judging on musks twitter performance, would you give the guy access to your brain?
I can just see it now - Musk's brain implant subscription services: Standing piss $15 per month, sit down pissing service $20 per month. Glass to mouth drinking service, a snap at $50 per month (eco straw hand/eye/mouth management services, an additional $5 per month).
The technology is interesting and would likely change people with disabilities lives for the better - but Musk being involved directly in my brain function, HELL NO.

And what happens when your subscription runs out - everything gets disabled? Anyway the technology already exists, to a degree - cochlear implants for hearing (I have one) and they are leveraging this tech to make bionic eyes. US Army was trialling one system where cameras were connected to a plate that was placed on the tongue, enabling vision on the dark by "tasting" the image. (lots of sensory organs on the tongue. Get the US military interested and theres no shortage of funding.
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

Mr Adam Something delves into the hyper loop hole. Good expose of the nothingness that arises from many of these modern great promises.
At the end there is a quote about Elon knowing hyperloop wouldn’t work but he just did it out of spite to derail Californias high speed rail project. (You’re not going to buy a Tesla if there’s a good train to commute on).

    bad news ......
    https://www.autoevolution.com/news/e...20of%20service.

Starlink satellites are expendable spacecraft designed to burn when they re-enter the atmosphere after about five years of service. Still, according to tracking data, SpaceX lost an unusually high number of satellites in the past two months.

In February 2022, a solar storm caused an entire Starlink fleet of 47 satellites to re-enter the atmosphere and burn.

Sometimes I'm a bit slow, I only just realized the reason the cyber truck got that name, is because it only exists on the internet

Yeah fox news reported on that, but oddly did not describe anything that he had seen, so I just assumed he did not see shit...
