How to kill someone in NZ and get away with it

Get drunk and run them over. You’ll get home detention.

if you nearly kill them drive off and pay 22K you can only get 6months Disqualified
As the Judge will drop other charges like- failing to stop to ascertain injury, dangerous driving, and failing to report an injury accident
As long as you have a Maserati..

No doubt due in part to the single source of truths dictate that we will imprison 30% less people.

Terribly tragic but it is in the realm of an accidental death of a vulnerable road user. The current justice system is a deterant for deliberate acts of stupidity or violence with a token effort towards otherwise good people of community who make a one off mistake.
The court makes allowances for genuinely remorseful people in these type of cases. But I know of a truck driver that got four years in jail for essentially the same thing due to deliberately driving outside the hours limits.

I've always said if you want to murder someone use a car and you'll get fuckall, especially if you have a bit of cash behind you, that sort of sentencing has happened several times, killing motorcyclists doesn't seem to be seen as much of a crime

Too many killing's in New Zealand

    Talk about killing,another stabbing in
    New Zealand today in Auckland.
    Too many killing's stabbings shootings,
never heard any of that when I was growing
    up in the 70's.
I don't know why people carry weapons anyway,
    your weapons are your hands.
    Gutless wonders carrying knives.

My neighbours got taken out in a crash in waipu cove just over a year ago. Court case was reported in NZ Herald last week. Three of them, parents and one girl got hit by a woman with her two kids and a friend in her car. She had already had phone ins about her shit driving prior to the crash. There was four helicopters needed to get them all to hospital. Zak from next door had a smashed pelvis, smashed femur, lost a third of his intestines, had a massive head injury and was in ICU for 16 weeks. He was in an induced coma for most of that. He is largely blind, legally as well. He has memory issues He most likely will never work again. His wife was OK, spent a night in hosp then discharged. Their 9yr old girl got smashed around a bit too was in ICU for a week I think and had a few operations for internal injuries. She had a head injury too and has not fully gone back to school as a result. She has a lot of scars on her face, but they are not too bad and she is cool about it. I looked after their dog and mowed their lawns for the four months it took for them to come home. Their daughter plays with our grandies at our place a lot before and since the crash hence my involvement.
The lady that hit them has a history of driving offences and charges and was aware enough to refuse to give a breath test or evidential blood test. She tried to drive off apparently. One of her kids is also quite smashed up apparently.
So last week the case wrapped up, she plead guilty to what she had been charged with and got 8 months home detention. She never showed any remorse. For what it is worth, she has lost her license for 18 months. What a fucking joke, she has no idea what she has done to them.

Yeah, you are right there mate, what fucking joke, this person got off lightly.
If she is a repeat offender and doesn't learn she should have her license taken off her permanently
And I think these people who run red lights should lose their car and licence for there months.

Umm. I think perhaps it might just be that you weren't paying attention back then. For example you could Google 'Bassett Road machine gun murders' (normal media hyperbole applies) and 'Dean Wickliffe'.

Apropos of using cars or trucks as weapons, there have been several incidents overseas of people driving vehicles into crowds. The NZ police have decided that the threat here is sufficient that counter measures need to be employed. The local RSA received a visit from Police detailing their requirements for the coming ANZAC Day observances. Roads that could provide an attack route have to be blocked off by concrete barriers, 44gal Drums full of water, or a large vehicle such as a bus.

Other than that the local bus company did not want their vehicles used in that manner I have no idea how matters are proceeding.
