An Ode for .. Whiney Luxon
Bard Billot on the bad mouthing Nats leader

    Stranger in a strange land

The Prophet Luxos walked amongst the People.

He spoke to the tillers of the soil.

    Lo, said the Prophet:

The People are wet and whineth

    and look inward.

And the tillers of the soil nodded in agreement

For they were a special Tribe unlike the others.

The Prophet Luxos came across some peons

crushed under relentless mortgages by the moneylenders.

    Lo, said the Prophet:

The House of the Lord has many rooms.

Indeed, there are actually many Houses of the Lord,

    Numbering seven at last count.

The Prophet Luxos drove into Gilead in his Tesla

Where he spake to the assembled wet whiny People.

    Lo, said the Prophet:

The problem is that we need more babies.

The career ladies with their subsidised birth control

Were shamed, and asketh does the Prophet mock us?

So the Prophet asked his handmaiden Nicola

Could you step in here and correct course?

    Nicola spoke to the ladies

And told them to relax because the Prophet

    Had merely told a joke.

The Prophet Luxos led his People out of Egypt

But came across a complicated road sign

    Which read Hello/Kia Ora.

I have no idea what this means, said the Prophet,

So he wandered lost in the Wilderness

For Forty Days and Forty Nights.

When he emerged it was election season.

What is your vision O Prophet? Asked the People.

    What awaits in your Paradise?

And the Prophet Luxos was stuck for words.

Erm … it will be aspirational, saith the Prophet,

Turning on the in flight safety videos.

Thus the People saw his shining City on the Hill

Which looked very much like a Koru Club Lounge,

With behind it spread out an infinite Golf Course

Where Key Almighty himself stood bathed under a soft golden glow

Shone by the Archangel Hosko from a big spotlight.

Has Nacts attack dog (Nicola Willis) scored an own goal with her breathless pre-release of Labours alleged removal of GST on fruit and veges? By saying it will cost 500 million a year in tax revenue, is she saying that the GST removal would be a terrible thing for the country? However to the lower income people, such a tax reduction would be more than welcome, so they are more likely to support Labour. I am pretty sure the lower income group outnumbers the traditional Nact supporter rich farmers and businessmen by a pretty large margin.

Yep, National would be better off endorsing the removal as well and vow to do the same? Looks like more than a few people would now vote National if National pledge to scrap co governance.

I think the point she was making was how much will it cost chippy? Cause we now labour never does the math or homework.
They just ended the petrol subsidy because they can’t afford to keep doing it so how will they afford this. Btw 500 million is only a couple weeks worth of benefit payments….
It is a pity the Nats work like this. They should take a lead out of acts book where they say hey that’s not good policy here’s what we would do.
Even the great Helen Clark ruled it out.
But it’s certainly right on principle we should not be putting tax on food or transport. And it’s a poor excuse to say it’s “too hard” when currently the supermarket computers can easily apply discounts to individual products during promotions.
The real issue is low wages and high inflation due to this govts out of control spending. Until we fix that we’re only ever papering over the cracks

Not misogyny (I have massive respect for both Helen and Jacinda) but rather the way Willis is used to attack Labour rather than put alternative policies and ideas out for national. Willis is candidate for Ohariu electorate, encompassing wealthy Wadestown and Khandallah and a lot of horsey equestrian centres - all of which have a very keen ear for dog whistles such as she puts out. (added) The last national candidate in this electorate got hammered by Greg O'Connor so maybe the Nacts decided the next candidate needed bigger balls. (Luxon needs to be careful when she is standing behind him, could be looking for the soft spot to stick the knife)

Bit of a difference. And the 500 mill is an estimate, with Willis using worst-case figures, so maybe she is not doing the math or homework either

How much did the cut cost in lost tax revenue?
The initial cost of the three-month petrol change was $350 million and was covered by reprioritising spending from the Covid-19 response fund, while the public transport subsidy cost between $25m and $40m and would also be met from the Covid-19 response fund.

The extension until the end of June also cost $718 million.

Overall the move had estimated to have cost about $2 billion.

    Youre so funny remember this
    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political...mised-spending
The National Party officially launched its election campaign today, but it was hindered by a $4 billion hole in its flagship economic policy. The party's finance spokesperson Paul Goldsmith was forced to concede his numbers did not add up after Labour revealed the significant gap in its costings.

"This is an irritating mistake. We missed it, and our external checker missed it as well, and that's a mistake that we made," he says.
Now the party will instead borrow the missing billions,
    or this

    https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political...ion-economists

National campaign manager Steven Joyce is doubling down on his attack on Labour's alternative budget, despite a series of economists saying he's wrong.
But experts said today National had made an error and did not read Labour's policy properly.

Dr Ganesh Nana, Chief Economist at the consultancy BERLDr Ganesh Nana Photo: Supplied
BERL, an independent company Labour employed to check its books, stood by its work. Chief executive Ganesh Nana said Mr Joyce was categorically wrong.

"It's just pure fiction, based on disagreement over definitions. Nerds like me love it, but I wouldn't expect voters to be at all interested in what an operating allowance is. I would expect voters to be more interested in where is the spending happening, and is that spending actually worthwhile?"

The New Zealand Initiative - a libertarian think tank - said National appeared to have made a basic accounting error in its criticism.
    best for last
We will not to increase taxes. National dug ourselves out of the $50 billion hole caused by the Global Finance Crisis and Canterbury earthquakes without new taxes. It took discipline and a focus on growth.
    No it took massive borrowing

It was a tongue in cheek comment I’m sure your of good character.

Notice how the left always calls Nats policy’s dog whistling??? It’s like saying half the population can’t think for themselves and only respond to trigger words….
So what shall we call labour’s policies?????

Like most of your posts, this one is not factual either in fact it's completely without substance.

    https://www.interest.co.nz/news/7015...gration-parker
Winston Peters has accused Labour of "dog-whistling" on the immigration debate after Andrew Little's comments on Chinese and Indian chefs.
The debate over whether and how to control migration has intensified as Labour and National accused each other on Wednesday of 'dog whistle' politics and raised the ugly issue of race.

You're. But anyway, it's dog-whistling from either side. And yes you are more or less correct, much of the population IS unable to think for itself and thus responds to slogans and trigger words. Thus it has always been in politics. It just seems though, that most of the dog-whistling does come from the right, where, unable to come up with anything meaningful of their own, resorts to attacking the left.
