Radar detectors

Do you use one?
Have you got a product recommendation?
Any other opinions?....except for dont exceed the speed limit.

Have had a Bell RX65 for a lot of years it is not waterproof but a surgical rubber glove fitted over it protects it fine (this lives in the car now) i use a single speaker on a cord to the radar , the speaker is nestled behind the foam in the helmet similar to this

The bike i have now came with a Adaptiv TPX 2 with a LED flasher which is conveniently mounted high up in my direct vision so i havnt bothered with a in helmet light or speaker. Its designed for bikes so the buttons are big and its marketed as waterproof.
Most people i know that use this unit have the helmet led flasher or helmet speaker.

Just got to remember the cops dont always have their radars on all the time and you will get nailed with instant on, so on straight roads especially if your the only one it keep an eye on your speed. Treat any car in the distance as a mufti.
Ive switched off 'K' and use Ka and Laser.
Lots of trucks and some cars have some sort of lane assist radars which triggers my Radar as Ka... just assume its a cop .

Used mine on the bike, needs a separate adapter for 3.5mm audio out but overall worked well.

Yep, got a Valentine,had it over ten years.(paid for itself many,many times over!)
Only use it in the car , but it works a treat.
Great to know where the boys are,have had warnings of up to 4kms on places like Desert Rd.

Bit harder these days to read camera vans after they changed frequency ,keep ya eyes peeled !

I recently bought a new detector. Received a bit of a jolt when I looked at the prices. Previously I had an Escort, it still works OK on the bike through a wireless speaker in the helmet, but was too quiet through its built in speaker in the car. When I looked at the specs for the more expensive current models they had bluetooth connectivity and other features I didn't want to pay for. I bought a Uniden R4. So far so good, although the settings on the R4 have many more options than the Escort. Technology has moved on in the near twenty years since I bought the Escort.

I did a shit ton of research and bought more than one top-end detector. The system I've settled on is a Valentine One Gen 2 detector + an Android phone running JBV1 (an app created by a guy on the Radar Detector Forums). This gives me pretty much all features possible (including an audible warning when approaching a drop in speed limit, which would have been really useful a couple of years ago). The V1G2 has great range and uses forward and rearward sensors to provide arrows to indicate whether the radar signal is ahead or behind (I find this information very useful and now would not consider a detector without it). The V1G2 doesn't have a GPS, but the Android phone I have paired to it (through BT) does, so the app can provide GPS based auto-lockouts and speed based settings changes. I can BT the phone to the detector and also BT the phone to my helmet comms simultaneously, allowing me to hear the alerts.

The V1G2 works fine on the bike and is weatherproof when there is a freezer bag over it secured with a couple of reusable zip ties. I keep the freezer bag and reusable zip ties in my tank bag when not in use, so I have them available if the weather turns to shit.

I have a detector in the car which I never use now, and have thought about mounting it on the bike. But it's 15 years old, and I should probably buy a new one if I fit a detector to the bike.

I should definitely do something though as I am well overdue for a ticket!
