That's not the problem according to Oxley Bom. It's the aero, the following bike is shielded from air flow and the front tyre quickly starts to overheat. We used to see a following bike try to pressure another rider into a mistake. They can't really do that now. They can only follow briefly.

Yep ,for me when they started pacing themselves to save the tyres, I began to lose interest !

If Dorna start having pitstops like F1 ,I'm out completely !
It was bad enough at P.I. with the first round of WSB......

Only thing I've joined paying to hear. I hate auto CC payments buy have made an exception.

Aero overheats fronts. Excess power will kill rears. I have a plan (groan. It's predictable coming from the quarter): reduce the power by halving the capacity. Reduce weight by getting rid of complicated cam, valves whatnot. Bio fuel.

Spec ECU and tyres ok. 2 strokes with injection and modern TC would be awesome. Allowing a bit more anti wheelie and heavily curtailing aero and devices.

Heck, that old bollocks about "oh we don't sell 2 strokes" - Yeah, well I don't see many V4 Hondas or KTMs, and Aprilia V41100 is the same totally dissimilar for last 10 (20?) Years. R1 is dissimilar and discontinuing.

    Interesting quote from MM:
"A rock-solid weekend. I didn't do anything crazy from Friday to Sunday. Today there was an improvement in that my start worked better. We worked intensively on it with the team yesterday. If you get off to a good start, things will be much easier in the race.It was also announced yesterday that I would have to pay equal attention to the front and rear tires. My driving style is still to blame. I still have to learn more on the Ducati. Portimão should be a good indicator. I was able to test both in Sepang and here, which of course helps enormously. In Portugal I'm starting from scratch. What makes me optimistic: I'm learning step by step. A tenth of a second here, a tenth of a second there. One is world champion, the other is second. They were already the fastest riders with the Ducati last year. No, I'm happy with my material and the team. You don't know my style in the race yet, so we took the safe route when it came to tire pressure in order to avoid a penalty for the minimum pressure at all costs.
In the last ten laps I started to attack something. But in the last two laps I took off the pressure because I felt I was closer to a crash than a podium. I'd rather give up a few points and try again in Portimão."

    MotoGP 2024

Acosta and M Marquez may be the only reasons to watch MotoGP this season. The UK commentators were comparing Bagnaia to Lorenzo after the race - no thanks!

The current riders may be the most talented for a while, but some them either can't ride the current bikes or are on Jap bikes and have no chance.

I certainly wouldn't pay €140 to watch MotoGP.

    I don't mind watching Bagnia.
Maybe you have to be a racer to know the tension, when you hear someone's up your arse and you don't know where or when they are going to have a go.
Its fucking terrible: do I attack this corner or defend, is he faster here or am I, the straight is after this next corner if I take it wide, I'll have speed, but he can block pass.
iIt's a mind fuck for sure, I tell you it is much less stressful to be the hunter.
Secondly faster rider can drag another second or two out of someone following so to get a gap is really skillful.

    For example
I'm on a post classic 150HP - 190kg FZR normally in race group at a trackday, if the trackday guys are there with their pocket rockets I am generally OK.
But if the F1 teams turn up I have to worry about the riders and bikes which have 50+HP more, 50 kilos lighter and 10 secs faster, bearing down on me.
Motofest trackday at Hampton I decided to go a group down "green group". I tell you it is a shit load more fun being one of the quicker bikes in the group.

Lets not call what Bagnia does boring he is bloody brilliant to be where he was Saturday and to step up with the way he raced on Sunday.
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

Dafug you smoking? The field is packed full of talented riders.

Peco is pure class, he won in moto3 on a bike that no one else could even get near the front on. He's very calculated, I'd not call him a Lorenzo, more a Dovi but actually fast (sorry Dovi fanbois).

??? I said that the current riders are the most talented for a while.

I agree about Bagnaia, I remember the race at Aragon a few years ago when Marquez couldn't get past him, and he took some chances getting to the front at Lusail. What I was trying to say is that he is not another Lorenzo as suggested by the commentators. It is certainly not his fault that the racing has become what it is at present.

Actually, take 2. Listened to the bonus issue with Peter explaining Qarar track and I think he gives a little weight to my understanding.

Ahk, I was just confused as to why you'd say that MM and Pedro are the only reason to watch, plenty of others there to keep the entertainment up. Bring on the improve Michelin front slick I say, that's what's holding them back. In saying that, Qatar is not always the most exciting track to watch, we'll still have a few gooduns hopefully

Just for interests sakes, I found this:

I downloaded the 4k video and watched the start of the Qatar race. It makes quite a difference as you can see the bikes sliding more clearly - the leaders did very well to all be upright at the end of the first lap!

The download didn't take very long and averaged over 200 Mb/sec! It was the TNT commentary, so it must be viewable at 4k somewhere in the world, probably Europe. Might be time for a 4k TV, although it looked fine on a 27" monitor.

The stream I chose on Reddit worked perfectly for both races. I will try a 4k download though as it will be interesting to see how MotoGP looks. Watching sport in 4k while in the UK a few months ago was great.

It was a pretty boring race apart from Acosta overtaking almost at will until his tyres went off. Watching Marc riding smoothly just doesn't seem right, but finishing both races with no crashes over the 3 days must be a novelty for him. Also, Lusail is definitely not one of his favourite tracks.
