Apparently the designer got an idea from looking at Tokyo traffic lights, two columns of four lights each. It might have been a more succesful GP bike if it had been a more conventional bike with a new untried motor, rather than the rest of the new ideas (monocoque frame, 16 inch wheels) that were tried along with the new motor . The very succcessful 6 cylinder GP bike of the 60s was absolutely conventional other than the engine
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.
those cheap ass bitches can do anything with ductape.

Maybe they should have just stopped trying to push an inappropriate technology for racing irrespectiveof pistonshape, in fact that's exactly what they had to do. Until some clown suggested that sanctioned cheating was acceptable and doubled the engine capacity.

WSBK came along and the lap times were either closing in or quicker than the 500 gp bikes, no one could easily sell the supposed fastest bikes in the world when there were others faster... When the Britten went to daytona they used a differnt section of the circuit as it was in a suppoert class but lap times on the same cct as the main event would have been quicker, and again, a hard sell that you're watching the absolute pinnacle of the sport, when a bike built in a shed in nz was in fact quickerer
