My first speedway bike had a J.A.P 4b engine which may even predate the Enfield. Engine oiling was via a dual plunger pump ('pilgrim") one feed to the crank and the other to a trough in the rocker box (between the pushrods). A hole in the side of the valve guides aligned with a drilling in the head, which was gravity fed oil from the trough via a small pipe. Feed to the rocker arm needles was splash from what ended up on the top of the pushrods. Would appear that guide oiling was more positive than to the rocker arm bearings

The boys who raced at Cust loved their external oil lines. Additional feeds to cams and rockers led to copper tubes running
    all over the motor.

And as copper will - they broke. We had a well known 250 Guzzi in the family until recently.
It had a history of leading the Lightweight GP until forced to retire with oil all over the bike,
It was well prepared too. Usually ridden by Kevin McCleary.

When did rubber tubbing become common. Or reliable?

I did find this guide size listing.

I think reinforced tube that would stand pressure wasn't common till mid to late 60's.

One example that comes to mind is the Vanwall GP car. It used relatively high pressure fuel injection.
Until they sourced some trick Palmer tube from the US in '57 or '58 it always split fuel hoses.
And that tube wasn't readily available. Aerospace industry took most of it.

I dont think Brians enfield has a problem with excessive oil pressure.
