Slow? Well some are, but others were hauling arse. In Open Modified & Open Post Classic race there was a bike doing 1:06s. That's not bad for a bike that's over 30 years old!

Today it's classic cars, and the Lycoming Special will be there,I'd really love to go.....but I have an aversion to crowds and just can't be arsed trying to find parking (I'd take my kids) and then having to jossle and mingle with thousands of others.....I'll have a quiet day in the garden....maybe a fang around the block later.

One day one of your bikes might become a classic and you will be the silly old bugger out riding it but then again maybe you will always own shit bikes that fade into obscurity.

Hey thanks for the advice on vans when I was looking brought a 1991 Nissan Largo Diesel in the end. Looking at the HiAce it would have been slightly better in some ways like lower floor but this ones alot shorter and perfect size for my needs.

Yes many of them do have issues but so will you when you get to their age. eg. You already have to use CAPS so you can see what your typing. Fuck I hope you can see this.

I don't think a K5 Suzuki will ever be a classic as its just another repeat of a long line of refinements on the original Suzuki classic of the 80's and then they only copied Kawasaki who copied Honda.

Was in Pukekohe for the weekend but at a car event. Some of the guys went down and watched the racing though and said it was good.

I was thinking more along the lines of big inline 4s when Honda first bought out the CBs and Kawasaki topped it with the 900 that was the first real Superbike and Triumph tried to comeback with the Trident. 60's and 70's and someone with more knowlege than I may be able to give a better account of the rise of the Japanese motorcycle industry after they got beyond scooters and commuter bikes.

THAT GPZ 900 WAS THE TURNING POINT FOR MOTORCYCLES , IT WAS THEN TRANSPLANTED INTO THE 1000RX WHICH HAD A TWIN SPAR FRAME THEN YOU HAVE THE BASIS FOR EVERY SPORTS BIKE TODAY FROM THERE IT ALSO HAD THE AIRBOX FED FROM A HIGH PREASURE SOURCE WHICH WAS THE BEGINING OF RAM AIR , AND THAT 86 1000RX WAS A ROCKET , SLIGHTLY FASTER THAN MY 96 AND 98 BLADE IN A STRAIGHT LINE .

Did anyone bother to put the event in the calendar? I only know an event is on if I see it in the upcoming events on the homepage.

It wasn't exactly well advertised. I only knew about it when the events list came out for work and I put my name down.

Norton had had a 750 twin for awhile, the Atlas, but it was a low comp single carb tourer, the 650SS was much faster. Then BSA/Triumph brought out the Rocket III and Trident, closely followed by the Norton Commando, although it was a close run thing,Commando Fastback may of been first. Then Honda came out with the CB750,and although the Commando and Trident were faster and better handling - the CB750 was truely the first superbike....OHC inline 4 cyl, disc brake,it was the most talked about bike for years...before and after.Kawasaki had it's 2 stroke triples,Suzuki the same, all Yamaha had was the XS1,the RDs were Yamaha's performance bike.It was no big thing when Kawasaki brought out the Z900,it was just another fast 4 cyl,I remember the lauch of the GT750 more than the Z900....don't think I even went into a bike shop to have a look.

Yeah I was probably to young to remember the impact the CB's had when they first came out. The Kawasakis are the ones I remember dominating the production bike racing until Suzuki came out with the 4 valve GSXR's which then made the Kawasaki's look slow.
