I have just ordered another one. At my advanced age I dont really even care too much that the revenue collectors might not be able to clock the plate number, I got it purely for aesthetics. An all black motorcycle needs a black number plate, thats it.

Tempting for a paltry $199, that’s only four bags of groceries at PaknSave….

But will it garner you more attention at traffic stops? There’s bound to be a cop or two in every town that hates them, instead of a warning it will be ticket even with good attitude.

There’s nothing to stop NZTA from cancelling them at a future date once they’ve had more time to work out how to rewrite the legislation as those things take time.

On a good interesting station guy said the whole vertical plate orientation thing had been binned as there was too many things they hadn’t thought about so that’s shelved for time being.

Well, they are legal plates sold legally by NZTA approved manufacturers. Like Henry, there are people who like them just because they look good, which is why they were introduced.

I heard about the difficulties with 'seeing' some of these plates months ago. I assumed that whatever the issue was was sorted out immediately through a change to the manufacturing process or whatever. Surely they cannot still be selling plates that aren't picked up by a speed camera, can't be seen at night and can't be seen from certain angles? To be honest I thought it was only a car thing anyway, never having seen these plates on a bike. The story in Stuff today showed a bike plate, albeit a pisstake. A quick Google and wow, they are changing the rules but you still have a week to purchase number plates that can't be read in certain conditions.

I would never have bought wanky personal plates but if they are going to advertise that they are illegible in certain conditions and they are going to be banned next week then fuck it, I'm having one. Sales must have gone through the roof today.

You're probably right, but they will have to refund the money. And it is NZTA of course, they seem to have been getting quite good at fucking up the basics over the last few years so I won't be holding my breath.

I've been looking at black and silver for a while and thought, they do look a lot nicer than dog bollox white with black letters. I know several bikes with black and silver, and I've seen how when they catch certain light you can't see the plate from the letters (plus just the general harder to see factor). I've also sworn I'd never want plates that are easier to remember...

So I bought 3 tonight Fuck it, can't take it with me...

1 is a regular plate, quite a convenient one, converting to black and silver (which means it actually becomes personalised, ie, transferrable), two for a wee venture, also black and silver.

It was peanuts. Expecting a lifetime of licensing for peanuts was a bit naive.

just as Shipley *promised* the new drivers license would not become a default identity card

of course, they're public servants whose only desire is to serve the public and make their lives better. Thats why Cwissy Luxon is happy to get me a glass of water whenever I snap my fingers.
