My black plate was only the same details as the white one. Saved some money.

    Nothing personal.

Lady was really good once I explained how I was trying to get three plates on two motorcycles, so queued the third on top of the first, said no worries, because you called in etc, they'll all be silver on black. All arrived on 11th December together.

Re the aluminium, you can either have 2-4 bits at the top for mounting and adding the rego/wof holders, or I'm probably going to keep it simple and have it higher all the way across, plenty of room to put additional holes in the future if needed.

I did have friends get theirs before mine, but ordered after me, so the sequencing is weird.

I'm also going to order security torx screws to mount them. Can't believe how I've changed. First I didn't care how dirty the plates were... now I'm trying to keep em nice, but then, you can't get them again (unless they re-introduce later)
Figure this double sided tape shouldn't let me down: https://www.bunnings.co.nz/scotch-2-...-roll_p0323826
Yes, that 3M tape should do the job.

I'll phone on Monday and check what's happening with my plate. It's just a remake of my existing black on white plate.

My plate finally arrived on Monday! I called earlier this month and was told that they are trying to clear the backlog by the end of January.

Mounting it looks like a little more of a mission than I expected. I am trying to avoid drilling holes, as the lack of predrilled holes probably means that there is no standard spacing for motorbikes. Whites do a number plate mounting bracket which looks like it will do the job and comes in black, so have ordered one. I will need to move the reflector down as well and find a new place for the WoF holder as it is currently attached to the number plate.

Not sure I would have bothered if I had thought this through, but the silver and black does look much better on the R1.

Correct, no standard spacing for bikes, BMW is 76mm or something, KTM is 90mm, but yeah, nothing standard.
With the aluminium backer I put the plates on, they're taller than the plate, 4 holes along the top. 2 for mounting, then one either side to hold wof or rego holder.
The BMW reflector is built in above the plate, the KTM had a piece of plastic behind the plate, so I got the narrowest red reflector and stuck it between the mounting holes.

Did you buy the backing plate, or make something yourself? I do not know the dimensions of the Whites bracket, but it should be delivered tomorrow.

Otherwise I may just drill the new plate. I can always use a couple of black plugs to fill in the holes if I need to.

Be careful, mounting the new plates, a backing plate, soft silicone and washers on the plate, will mean your PLATE won't crack and fall off, had 2 do this over the years

Couldn't see anything suitable for my needs in terms of buying something, had some aluminium plate from years ago I'd never used, so cut two pieces out of it, used a grinder on the edges etc. Not display quality, but suffices for my needs.
I've also broken plates in the past, so I know how flimsy they are.

Thanks, the new plate certainly does not feel as robust as the old one.

I bought some black screws for mounting the backing plate today. They are hex socket, so one step better than Phillips for security. I had a look at the security screws for number plates but am not buying something that needs a special tool to remove.

they are not strong. I bumped against the edge of the plate and it bent quite easily. It straightened just as easily but it doesn't bode well for long term. Will consider a backing plate and RTV
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

I used security torx, torx with a pin in the centre.

Bunnings didn't have those! I'll order some, might fit them to the car as well.

The issue is that the plates stress harden and then crack through the holes, wife's bike nearly lost the plate completely.
The silly and a backing plate fixed it!

Understood, I'm not drilling the plate.

The Whites bracket arrived today but I'm still not sure how it's meant to work. Maybe it will make more sense in the morning when I'm sober!
