    Bartman10 and Velox do battle

Had a bloody good time at the Vic club track day!

    The weather was great, !

In the morning a few of us went on the back circuit with Sean and Jay for a few tips on riding the bike properly and choosing lines. Well worth it. Thanks guys!

Things were going well until and I was getting a bit cockey, pushing harder and harder. Next thing I know the peg digs in hard and the back wheel starts spinning freely in the air. Oh shit. Down I go on the low side.

No damage apart from a few more scrapes on the crank case, a slightly-out-of-whack triple clamp and a busted brake lever. Got the bike back to the pits and sorted it all out ready to go after lunch.

The last session of the day and Velox and I are on for a bit of a duel on the 250s. Then it hits me as we line up on the dummy grid... I need gas! I yell out to Fraggle and she sprints over and gets some. The gates open and Velox is off while I'm still filling up... This is a bad start. I thumb the starter and the chase is on....

First problem Russell Williams who was fourth overall in the streetstocks this year. I mount the pressure on and he makes a mistake in the hairpin. This allows me to line him up for a move into Higgins. I get good drive and manage to pass him on the exit. Job done, but Velox is still about 1 km ahead.

I really start cranking it through the esses. I make up some ground and catch up. She sees me in her mirror and starts really cranking it out.

    The battle is on.

We go at it hammer and tongs for a while. I'm not making much progress. Next we catch up to a chap on an SV650s. This makes it interesting. I try an impossible move down the inside of both of them at Dunlop. No chance, Velox closes the door and I loose valuable exit speed. I nail it through Coke and the esses. I'm chasing her hard and this goes on for a few laps. We hit the hairpin, time to commit. I drive hard through the hairpin on her tail, move slightly to the inside at Higgins. Now it’s an out-braking manoeuvre - who's going to brake first...? I hold off. Not much longer now or things will get ugly... Velox goes for the brakes I hold on for a split second, I get the line. But it's not over yet. We both get good drive out of the corner heading for Dunlop. Neck and neck all the way down the straight. I've got the line and brake late. Almost too late, but I get away with it. Velox still hard on my tail, but I've got the line advantage now.... Just in time, too the chequered flag comes out on the next lap...

Phew. That was close. Great riding Velox!

Time for some proper races eh! Hopefully I'll see ya at the Winter series next year!

Shit that's pretty impresive mate! You managed to chase down a girl. Riding an unfaired commuter bike. With 10000000 kays on the clock.

    You da man!

    Thumbs up Good game

Hah! Nice one Bartman! That was the best fun of the day I reckon. Came off the track laughing inside my helmet. Awesome.
Good effort too - I thought I'd been giving it heaps from the start and you still caught up! It was really good to have another 250 out there to play with - a bit more even 'competition' eh. Heaps of fun!!! Yeah - bring it on for next year! Bartman - get a bike for Street Stock! I'm thinking the Jade might not be the best for racing now - the brakes are crap and in theory other 'sporty' 150s or 250s should have a bit more performance. And I need a commuter bike. I dunno.
(Btw, a "girl" WT - come on mate this is reality, not the confined reasonings of a male ego Although it does mean that I have a better power to weight ratio ).

Thanks Vic Club too! That 'training' bit on the back section was cool, and Sean (sp?) was a real good sort. The thing that I got out of it was that I need to actually move around on the bike more and stick my knee out etc..., which really doesn't come naturally for my style of riding (or my cynicism) but I'll work on it. It was cool to follow Jay for a lap around the main track too - helped with the hairpin, but only for one lap then I completely forgot how to do it again. Argh.

Straight after Manfield I did Vinegar Hill and went on to Taupo for the night. Came back via Napier the next day (after hanging out at the MotoX in Taupo for a bit) and got back home ABSOLUTELY STUFFED. As in seriously stuffed - wasn't functioning properly at all. Mate.
