We've just got back...a little over 600ks in total for the weekend.
Highlight...Riding back from Pongoroa today, absolutely superb.
Lowlight...the cocksucking marshal on the Blue VTR with the pillion. A formal complaint is on it's way to the organisers.
Got fairly wet on the way to Himitangi and again from about Caterton through to Upper Hutt.
The bike is now filthy...might squirt some soap on it and park it in the rain.
Skel...how where did you get to?

Got as far as Woodville. Spent most of the time riding infront of your brother in-law and his partner.
Good to hear your trip back was better.

Great ride. Got to catch up with some old faces too. The only damage suffered was a lost number plate. It was one of those stupid oversized ones, so no great loss. Just a pain. The overtaking manover of the day goes to the rider on the KTM Duke. Took me on the back wheel! Well done. The worst one I did was when I gassed it on the straight to get past some bikes that only go fast in straight lines, and then locking BOTH wheels as I grabbed a little too much brake to filter back into the pack. WOW a twitchey 600 and THREE skid marks! I learnd a new skill!
Had a great ride, just a bit damp at the start but it came to nothing. Was amazed at the dodgy passing maneuvers ( sp ? ) of some but he worst riding I saw was someone one a vtr1000 that I followed for ages that was travelling at sub-nana pace and was all over the road. I was to scared to pass in case he ( or she ) wiped me out and they would probably just have passed the mighty GB on the straights. All in all a bloody good ride, had probably one jug of Tui more than I should of but at least it meant I could sleep through the karaoke. Took off abut 7 the next morning as being of the geographically disadvantaged persuasion, I thought it best that if , or when , I got lost I had plenty of daylight to find my way home. Just to add a bit of excitement my speedo cable had broken just out of Himitangi so I had no real idea of how far I had gone during the weekend, so no idea how much further the petrol would last. Great to meet up with more of the Palmy KBers, never realised how many of us there wereNo longer a Coast to Coast virgin, like some other things now that I have a taste for it I might try it again

Where are your photos dudes? I gave you pics when I did this last year having done 8 of the last 10, now 8 of the last 11. I couldn't make it this year because I was committed to turning up to our work Xmas event the same day.
Cheers

Yep - great day out! I was feeling pretty stuffed by the end of it though. We went back to Wgtn via real nice (apart from heaps of roadworks) backroads that came out at Masterton. It's cool that if you want you can go all the way from Akitio to the Rimutakas withought going on SH2 until the foot of the Rimutakas! (If you go via the Gladstone/Water tower road, which we didn't).
I heard tonight that a guy died on the ride - is that right or just a nasty rumour?

A few years ago someone caught it according to the guys here at work who have done it. They wern't very encourageing about the organisation of the ride, though times change and lessons are learnt, sometimes the hard way. Would have done it this year but the Mrs chose that wekend for our end of year work do, even though I had it marked on the calender for monthsOriginally Posted by Velox
Oh well got some OT in Sat night so not all bad ay.

First time coast to coast, was very impressed with the ride and organisation. After weeding me way through towards the front, at one stage thought I may have taken a wrong turn past Pongaroa as did not see any bikes till just before Akitio. Ride back after prize giving was fast and furious, awesome and hardly no slow traffic to contend with.
and the boys were gentle with me. I enjoyed the ride out to woodville. Alot of time to look at the scenery. After woodville it was a good pace. Got some space where there were just a few of us cruising round the twisties. It was great. The ride home was a good one. Had a great day in all.
must agree, top ride, though a lot of folk could do with some "advanced" rider trainin, red vtr firestorm anyone????, we ride on the left over here mate!.
Also a yellow L plate may mean learner, but that doesnt mean pass 10mm off their mirror and cut in 20mm off their front wheel, ridin in a group is bloody good experience for everybody, and I hope a few learnt from it!.
I heard the guy who came off at Akitio had a heart attack, dunno about the result though.
Congrats on the compere from the woodville lions, top boy, and next year sack the feckin kareoke off and get a band in... rockin robin and grease megamix for fecks sake!.:slap:
see god then brake... kevin schwantz
That's why we built the bonfire on the beach...to try and stay away from the kareoke...mind you, we could still hear it and it wasn't good.Originally Posted by betti
