Anyone had a ride on one and able to give an opinion report review, I was thinking of stepping up from the MT-03

I've ridden a few of them over the years, predominantly as courtesy bikes, and one extended test ride on one before I opted for my Street Triple.

Are you looking for a LAMS or full power one? One thing I will say about the LAMS version is that it's the only large capacity LAMS bike I've ridden where the engine doesn't feel artificially watered down. The engine feels incredibly punchy in its LAMS form, much more so than I was expecting.

Have you ridden an MT-07 before? The engine characteristics feel totally different with the MT-03 being a revvier engine vs the MT-07 which has noticeably more torque earlier in the rev range, but tends to feel like it's running out of puff a bit at higher RPMs.

I was looking at the MTO7 HO , 789 cc , I see trademe is full of the 655 cc bikes and a lot are with low kilometres, I’ve been riding the MT03 for 2.5 years and I have a full license years ago I bought the mt03 as I thought I could manage it and now I have covered 23000 kilometres doing the Auckland to Kaitaia trips I was thinking more power

considered a Street Triple at all? Plenty of them on TM as well
it's not a bad thing till you throw a KLR into the mix.

That's what I did two days after test riding an MT-07. I preferred the engine character of the triple. Plus, the much better brakes and suspension. (Although, that was in 2017. I'm not sure if the MT-07 components have been upgraded since then.) My Street Triple now has almost 90,000 kms on the clock and it's still going strong. One day I will probably replace it with another low kilometer Street Triple. If I bump it up to a 765, it might even feel like new bike instead of paying a lump of cash for more of the same.

My personal recommendation would be to test ride a bunch of bikes, as there's several good options in the middleweight naked segment these days. In addition to the MT-07, I'd at least recommend test riding a Tuono 660, Street Triple 675/765 and maybe even a Z650 or Versys 650 for additional data points.

You could also try the MT-09 and Hornet 750, which might surprise you. There are many good bikes in this category at the moment.

I had ridden my sons 675 and (coming from GS1100G & KLR experience) I thought it was amazing. The 765RS is orders of magnitude improved on what was already a pretty neat bike and probably not the wisest move, but it was there and will no doubt be the last hurrah for me so... I know I'll never come anywhere near tapping its full potential but the midrange torque is more than enough to keep me giggling if not laughing right out loud.

    Well I am bike less

I emailed the local Yamaha dealer on the shore and got a curt email that they don’t have any specific information on the runout 2023 models so I discarded the dealer off my list . I went to the Whangarei dealer and the helpful guy showed me what they had in stock but said cyclespot would have the new models on the floor which I could put my leg over the 2025 so I did get to Auckland and went through the rituals and tried the different models, the cycle spot boss offered me a deal straight away and me being a cheap skate I got caught I found the mt-07 was high enough that I could have my feet comfortable on the ground. I paid the deposit on the 7 July with collection being 4th August , well the 4th August arrived and I had the flu so emailed to collect it Friday , during the week I sold my MT-03 so I’m bikeless . Friday arrives and the bike shop can’t register the bike as Yamaha in all their excitement of a new model didn’t put the details in the NZTA web site , so it appears me buying a bike interfered with the Yamaha Friday afternoon drinks. So no bike for me for the weekend
So come Tuesday I’m informed Yamaha NZ are scrambling to fix their stuff up. So beware Yamaha NZ are on their slow scramble, I have asked for my money back as they don’t seem interested after having an order for a month

Cyclespot has 2024 MT-09 models at $16k. That's not a bad price for a pretty decent motorbike.

I hazard a guess that the delay lies more with NZTA than Yamaha

I think the fault is with Cycle spot and Yamaha

As when I was in the fitting area (at the desk with the salesman)at cyclespot the sales man didn’t even know that the model even existed so I showed him a trademe listing from another dealer and gave him the model number but he went ahead and wrote what numbers he thought would do ,
Tonight I had a call from Yamaha nz and he wanted to prattle off how the numbers were wrong, I told him that having the order for a month was long enough to get off his arse and make sure everything is correct, but come Friday and it interferes with the Friday afternoon drinks the customer can wait , in the end he wouldn’t listen to me so I hung up on the idiot , and today I visited Coleman’s and think the Suzuki GSX8S might be the one
