    Worn front sprocket

I normally ride with earplugs to preserve what is left of my hearing. Recently I took the R1 for a ride to dry everything after giving it a good wash, and without earplugs noticed that there was a fair amount of chain noise. The chain and sprockets have done nearly 50,000 km - the chain has been adjusted 4 or 5 times and the rear aluminium sprocket is only slightly worn.

Anyway, I realised that I had not taken off the front sprocket cover since replacing the chain and sprockets and decided maybe I should have a look. Ignoring the disgusting mess under the cover, the drive side of the teeth look quite worn and the sprocket really should be replaced. This is a first for me - I have never worn out a front sprocket while the chain is still in good condition. In fact, I've never had a chain last that long before - it looks fine and there are no tight spots. It is an EK 3D which I bought locally for a good price.

The front sprocket is OE and the rubber dampers are still in good condition.

On dirtbike I'd often replace the worn front sprocket mid life of chain. 50k is great going on a litrebike I'd say. Maybe time for a cheap JT and see out next 8k perhaps?

Not a JT! I tried dropping a tooth on the front sprocket when I replaced the chain and fitted a JT. I did a few thousand km, then decided to fit a larger rear sprocket instead. The JT had visible wear, so I've avoided them since.

I'll see what another OE sprocket costs.

Strange I've had good success with them. But it doesn't have to last longer than the chains last summer. The front wears fastest of any part so never reuse.
