Nothing much to say re day 6 Which was Mossburn to Geraldine. Was looking forward to the ride through Tekapo etc and had a couple of detours to look at. However the forecast was for high winds in the centre so I elected for a run up SH1. Uneventful until Timaru when I ran into some rain and discoverd the weather protection is quite good. The screen keeps most of the water of your body and the "pods" on the tank keeps most of the water off your legs. As it about lunch time when i got to Dunedin I visited MCiver and Veitch where I bougt the bike cos I knew I could park there and there was a lunch place just across the road. They have a sitting area upstairs where they have a couple of older Hondas on display.
Back on the road I refuelled at Timaru bfore heding to Geraldine for the night where I could actually cook in my room, using the makeshift ingredients bought the afternoon before.
Day 7 Geraldine to Rotherham Hotel (near Culverden)
Bit of a experiment today in that I plotted a tortuous route which basically followed inland route 72 to see how an old garmin I bought of Trade Me worked. Was raher tedious to plot it in on the device as I learned how to navigate its quirky menus through only a few buttons and a kinda mouse operated keyboard. I like to see a map. The bike has a navi sytem that uses an app of your phone and shows very basic directions on the bike TFT . All ws going to plan s I zoomed past a sign to Mt Hutt Ski field.Slammed on the brakes and did a uturn to take a look up there. I got to about 3 km from the top thinking about the time this was taking. As it happened I had heaps of time in hand . Some nice views from my stopping place(I think its a carpark near the top)
Got another good run from the tank getting low at Culverden just short of Rotherham Hotel who put on a fantastic dinner! 384 km incuding some pointless dead ends and a detour where I ignored the gps AND road signs!
