and going offtopic, IMHO, is fine, so long as it's not stupid and boring.

you'd achieve a lot more by shooting all the stupid and boring people offhand than by trying to regulate forum usage.

    finally you say something worthwhile...

dont you find it annoying when you are reading about suspension setup and then theres XXXposts about someones mum or whatever...

    well, of course!

our esteemed volunteer mods are there to hose away that sort of crap with extreme prejudice.

I'm always up for buying one of 'em a pint in appreciation for a job well done.

if the volume's getting a bit too high, perhaps we need another nomination or two.

Very true. Good on you gareth for making a point of it, it would seem hints and the such wouldnt be any use.

that could work, but my point is that we shouldnt need more mods, just people taking more consideration before posting stuff that doesnt need to be posted.

Why is Fish making so much sense in this post. (This is not a shot at Fish)
I agree things have gotten a little out of hand but I think the game is over now

I view threads by using the 'new posts' link. I rarely miss out on topics this way. Having said that I do tend to checkout the 'Meetings blah blah' forum just incase im not missing out.

To be honest something like this forum, where people are free to express their views, is only going to end up emulating society and life itself. The obvious way of changing society and its structure is through politics. I think you are right to some extent, but I dont believe anything is going to change.

sadly that is true, and the only 'politics' as such on KB come from the users themselves.

the situation is far from dire, i am merely commenting to the community what some people have said to me. The feeling is there that the site could be a better place, i am just trying to kick start some awareness that may be able to point the site in the right direction.

I dont want it to be all nana-ish where we all talk properly, with proper manners etc.. that would take all the fun out of it. What does worry me though is that some people dont know when to stop, and that is when it starts to become a problem.

As you are responsible for much of the recent drivel maybe you could be the first to be a little more considerate.......the site is not about you

Im with Gareth on this. Im guilty of thread hijackings and I felt bad enough to post an apology.

Fish, I find it amusing that as soon as something relevant comes up, you tend to fight against it or like pointing out the bad stuff.
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds

And the temples of his Gods

im sitting here thinking that a post like this is much the same as the book 'once were warriors', it is written with the intent to help improve things in a said community or society, however the ones that it is supposed to help change/benefit are unable to, or do not comprehend what has been said.

Yeah, I know the nana factor is not sought after.

Maybe the problem is that people want something different from the forums than what the forum was orginally intended. I know whenever i hear something sensational one of the first things I think of is 'i should post that'.

The reality is that my 'peers' read these forums, therefore I wish to exist here, non-thread related or not.

    some support via PM -

I generally don't post often for those very reasons...and because i have a tendency to wander far away from the topic myself/offend people with my soh....

Having said that, I've read quite a few threads lately that seem to have the same names cropping up, and hence the same shit-slinging and general bullshit. Although it makes for free entertainment, i've noticed things get wildly off the topic, and in some cases, reduce what's started out as a serious thread, to nasty personal attacks.

I'm not sure how effective you'll find your post is....time will tell, and i'm sure you'll get some interesting comments and feedback....You may have found it more effective to address this issue with the individuals. However, as there clearly seems to be a receptive and actively contributing audience in terms of egging these members on, you may just get told to bugger off....

It's the same story as the stars vs the paparazzi - if people didn't buy the gossip/woman's mags, the paparazzi wouldn't have a job.....
