Looks like only singles and 17" wheels.
No Aprilia SVX's or 16.5" front wheels.
Sounds dumb to me.

Thanks for the info. Exactly what I need
Where are the Supermoto Tracks? All I know of is they regulary race over at Taupo but haven't heard of anywhere else
And looks like getting a CR/KX500 might just be too big a step at this stage. May be best to enter S2 class first
I dont agree with the 1 piece suit rule. I think its worded incorrectly, I think they mean a 1 piece suit, or a 2 piece suit zipped together (as in the road race rules). Also, motard leathers are slightly different from road race leathers.
Its good to see they have classified the bikes properly. Do they intend to run an offroad portion in the race or will it just be on road circuits.
Also, why dont they just adopt the FIM rules like everyone else does, instead of obfusticating things. It would make it easier for kiwi's going abroad and for people coming here, if they just used one common set of rules with an Annex for any legal differences.
Reading further thru the rules, apparently the clerk of the course can stop the race due to danger![]()

How are motard/moto leathers different?Originally Posted by TwoSeven
Being Supermoto I think they'll have dirt sections. From what I've read Motard is just road, Moto is road/dirt
They are cut for sitting more upright as far as I am aware, compared to a racers crouching positionOriginally Posted by alarumba
No,supermotard is what it is,sealed and dirt sections, with atleast one speedway corner because it was originaly a multi disaplin sport. Now,finaly thank god,it has become popular worldwide and is morphing into something else. Here in NZ we have a motard class in our street races - call it what you like, but the original concept was seal/dirt.

Supermoto/Supermotard is more a mindset than a specific set of rules about if X qualifies or not.
Basically the bikes boil down to running whatever you want but bearing in mind there may be a dirt section with possibly jumps and the track may be quite tight.
Converted dirt bikes are popular because you can put the big wheels back on and go motorcrossing/trailriding on the same bike.
There have been people riding Harleys/Ducatis etc in British championship series' and doing well (Keith Jackson).
Supermoto, Supermotard - I prefer to think of it all as Motard.
You've got the bikes, the riders and they race dosn't matter what the track is like, they're just trying to be first over the line and have a hell of a time.
The leathers are cut differently and have different type of body armour - more impact stuff than slidy stuff. Also, boots, gloves and lid are different.
As far as I can figure it, there seems to be more sudden stopping in motards
I'm hoping that the 2006 series will be on TV (perhaps sky sport). I saw the schedule up on the FIM website for the races.
