Fireworks - Home made bomb - explosion: 4/11/05

The Fire service, Ambo's and Police have enough to do without having to go and pick up the pieces of the idiots out there, who make home made bombs for fireworks.
Now ACC will be also picking up the bill for this idiot as well.

Location of incident: Waiheke Island

Incident Type: Man seriously injured in bomb making explosion

Just after 7 pm tonight emergency services were called to a report of an explosion at a house on Waiheke Island. When they arrived they found a 20 year old man with serious injuries to his hand. He was taken to hospital by helicopter. An investigation revealled evidence of attempts to make pipe bombs from the contents of a large quantity of fireworks.
It was initially feared that the injured man would loose his hand, however it is believed that the loss will be limited to two or three fingers. Police enquiries are continuing.

Exactly. Fireworks explosive is a bit pathetic really for that kinda stuff nowadays. Flash powder is even better again (what they used to use in the TRUE old m60's etc) but you have to make it yourself to get decent amounts and strengths.

If he was smart enough to blow off his own fingers, do you really think he would be smart enough to choose the right explosives??

On the other hand, if he blew off his own fingers with fireworks, imagine how much he could have achieved with proper explosives...

Perhaps its best we let him play with only himself... given time, he won't have much left anyway...

I am with your superdave on this one why does the tax payer have to pay for this guys stupid antics.
Guy had no common sense or something maybe minus a finger or two it can help him think more carefully in future.

I would say that fucking around with explosives carry a much higher rate of injury than riding. Everyone knows that riding/driving on the road has its dangers hence we pay ACC levies to help us out if the shit hits the fan.

How many of us that have crashed here have needed to be airlifted to hospital after an accident? That costs a shitload of money. I'm pretty sure that every time someone trying to make bombs out of fireworks messes up they end up needing expensive hopsital treatment.
