Bike service before a big trip

I'm planning on doing a fair few km's on the zx6r over the next few months (round both islands, maybe round the north a couple of times) and want to make sure it's all good to go without breaking down in the middle of nowhere.

I was going to give it an oil and filter change, but I was wondering what else should be done. It's a 96 zx6r, and it's up to 95000km's now. I've been doing the oil and filter every 5000km's since I got it and it was done regularly before that.

What other things should I get done on it before taking it on any decent trips? How do you know if the valve clearances need adjusting, or the carbs need syncing? It seems to be running fine at the moment and has done for as long as I've had it.

There's a slight burble in the exhaust note that I've noticed recently, but it doesn't seem to be affecting performance. Is there anything in specific I should watch out for?

    Cheers

    Tyres...

    Wheel bearings

    Brake pads

    Chain / Sprocket

    Plugs...

    cables...

Basically anything that you would NOT like to be messing with on the side of the road in a gale while it's pissing down... plus anything that you can't walk into a dealer and get off the shelf.. oh.. Japanese.. That would be everything then...

Exhaust noise could be a baffle coming loose? Who knows...

HAVE FUN... Take pictures, MAKE US PROUD lad....

It's funny you should mention that. Mine shook under braking when I got it too and it had just been serviced. It went away after I got new brake pads.

I'll do the oil, filter and plugs myself as well as the other regular things and if anything else comes up I'll book it into a shop.

Don't worry lots of pics will be taken!
