The best concerts I ever went to......

I had a haircut at lunch-time and was having a spirited discussion with my slighty effeminate barber (or should I say, stylist?) about what great live bands we'd been too (J2 Live was on the telly). It got me thinking about some of the really good bands that I've seen.

One that sprang to mind was Genesis when they played at Western Springs on the Invisible Touch tour in the late Eighties. A brilliant concert where the highlight was a drum duel between Phil Collins and Chester Thompson at the half time break which went on for a good 15 minutes with each of them adding to the others reply a-la duelling banjos, and then at the crescendo, they segued into the drum intro to Home By The Sea

My jaw just dropped, but that may have been because I was half stoned at the time from inhaling all the smoke that was around us

I saw Genesis at Knebworth in England, it was bloody magic, definatly the best band concert i've been to, but the best gig i've ever been to was Summer Dayze out by the air port 2 years ago, Grove Armarda were there playing for 3 hours, i was at the front by the decks and met the guys, it was such a bangin night. 9 different rooms all going at the same time (not like big day out) it was all dance, D&B and one room had hip hop in it, or so i was told, didn't even go close to that one......

Hardly been out of the country but one of the best Ive been to in Welly was when Eric Burton (of Animals fame) came to NZ with a new band. The lead guitarist was a magician and the so-cal sound was awesome.
note: not my usual tastes but went with friends.

Pink Floyd Experience was pretty awesome too actually. They played most of G-hits and Darkside of the Moon and at halftime the say 'ok now we are going to perform the Wall album'. There was a wall, nurses and everything.

I was at a Neil Young concert at Western Springs, and the people I was with started bouncing patched Headhunter members out of the way to get to the front, the land rights discusions were getting a bit heated,so I wandered off by myself.I ended up on the teraces and sat at the end of a group passing things around - my head got fair ripped off and I was getting a bit paranoid....as you do.I turned to the guy next to me to ask him what the hell was in that stuff - but he was out cold on the ground! Didn't help my paranoya!

Bloody hell Dallas, looks like you've seen everyone worth seeing. Pink Floyd played here also at Western Springs on the Moentary Lapse of Reason tour, and the one thing i remember about that (other than a flying pig) was their polish. They played most of their tunes in time to a circular video screen that was playing story-like videos and each chord change and rift was in perfect sync (great sequence of a rower with the camera aleternating between above and below the waters surface to the music of Signs of Life). Like listenening to an album but with more flashing lights.

    Here's a few:

    Kiss - Athletic Park
The Clash - Overseas Terminal, Wellington
Siouxsie and the Banshees - Wellington Town Hall
The Enemy - The Last Resort
The Birthday Party - Union Hall, Victoria University
Dr Feelgood - St James, Wellington
    Jane's Addiction - Logan Campbell Centre (I think - can't really remember)
    Guns 'N Roses - Supertop
Metallica - Logan Campbell Centre (partied with the band after the show)
    Infectious Grooves - St James
    Tool - Town Hall, Wellington
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Haven't exactly been to many concerts - did see Flo & Eddie in the late 70's on their Illegal, Immoral, & Fattening tour. Lampooning various rock stars/bands.
Always catch the PF Experience when in our corner (are mates of ours).
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Mmmmmm been to more than I thought...
    among the more memorable....
Pink Floyd with Free as the intro - Sydney 1970
Led Zep at Brisbane - 1971 - just bowled in off the street - didnt even know they were playin - fuck , Jimmy Page was good! Robert Plant had a hissy fit and threatened to fuck off if people didnt shut up in the acoustic bits.....
Suicidal Tendencies at the Town Hall - um.....95-6? - the farewell tour with the good lineup! They cranked it up pretty well!
Santana at Carlaw park in ....'78? was pretty laid back....
Black Sabbath at the Ngaruawahia festival in '72........cant remember much apart from the burning cross on the hill behind us - was pretty out of it...to much acid...
But one of the most memorable was Joan Baez at Western Springs on a summers afternoon around 1980? A small intimate crowd and it was really good.
Jethro Tull in the Civic in '71 was OK as well
