Trashed Gix ..... opinions on fix up

I had a GSXR750 H, which was a fixer-upper, and have sold it on. I have now been given another "trashed" gix 750, not sure if its a G or an H (or later), that has been used to ride around a muddy paddock for the last year. I dont know how much of the plastics I am getting with it, but wondered if you guys are at all interested in a "fix up thread".

I have webhosting space, and could give weekly reports on what I had found whilst stripping it, and photographs on the rebuilding of it, warts an all. I intend to pull it apart bit by bit.

I am not a bike mechanic, and probably wont do anything to the engine, as I have been told the engine is actually very good, and has no death rattles in it etc etc, but depending on the overall state of it, there will probably be a good amount of cosmetic stuff to attend to, as I am told the original paint work is all gone, and it was sprayed some ugly colour.

I was going to make this a "poor mans" restoration, because I don't have the dough to just throw at it, but instead would look to use the materials and tools I have in my garage right now.

If this is worth me doing, please let me know, and I'll start a "resto" thread. I should have the bike tomorrow.

hmmm, could always go streetfighter?

i'm kinda looking for a cheap 600+ sprots bike to strip down and 'do up' as a stunt/streefighter/drag bike with a couple of mates.

I think I could go streetfighter, quite like that idea. I'll see how much fairing comes with it, it could be virtually naked now for all I know. Its a freebie, so Im not complaining.

hey yeah I would follow that project, but then it seems im the only one interested - dont bother just for me, but you _have_ to take pics of the whole proccess just prove you did it

I think this is how I felt when I first read the post. Dont feel bad that no-one said 'yeah do it for me!!!' as no-one probably wanted the commitment

. I would love to streetfighter a bike. A Gixxer is a popular bike to SF overseas so it would be easy to get info about it (www.justbandits.com is a goodie). I also have quite definite ideas about how I want the bike to look like too (have posted a couple of times).

Anyway...good luck, and I wouldnt mind seeing a blog about it too.

I'd follow ut too as I have an interest too, but as m/m says... I wouldnt spend too much time on it !!

I'm not asking for any commitment, I'm asking people if they would read the thread, you don't have to help with advice and stuff, but some opinions re the sort of fix up is good, like people throwing streetfighter at me was good. I'm the one making the commitment here, because I'll have to come clean on my word, and actually do it.

The bike hopefully arrives today, it didn't show up yesterday. I will take some photo's of its "as is" state, whilst strapped to a wooden pallet, and go from there. I'll see how bad it is before making a final decision, but if there are enough sidecovers and its basically all there, I'll hook into it.

...I had trouble atriculating myself. Get into it and I will definitley read it if you write it. Thinking of doing the same thing too so lead on.

hey - not sure if it will fit - but i have a pair of RGV triples with streetfighter handlerbar clamps - could save you some work.
forks are 40 or 41mm - i don't have an accurate measuring devive.

Haha, fine idea until one of the 'partners' in the bike stoppies it in to a car, brick wall, etc.

Good idea to get a shitter to practice all the funny stuff on though. I hope to at some stage after I buy the 400 race bike, new road bike, etc....

I'd keep an eye on what you got up to...
check out british sites for 'streetfighter' stuff; they're proper mad on it!
Also keen on doing a 'rear end' conversion on mine, so lemme know if you want rid of your tail section!
