You're in NZ now, Dr Boomer.
Solid white lines don't mean no passing. Them's the yellow ones.

Speaking of which, I pulled out to pass a car on 16 the other day. Knowing the road well, (I thought) I lined him up knowing that there was a straight when the left-hander opened out, checked ahead, nailed it, then realised the wankers had painted another 400 metres of double yellows. On a stretch of straight that's safe for anyone who wants to pass, provided they know how to accelerate and are prepared to do 100 km'h (or plus) At this rate Transhit NZ are going to have no passing lines on every inch of friggin' road.

I'm a bit fed up with it. One role the bike plays in my life is as a stress relief device (easy on you lot - no rudeness required) and currently, riding it is quite stressful.

The roads seem to be getting bumpier every year and nothing is done... I seriously wonder about all this and am starting to think a trail bike is the answer

It's all part of the NZ nanny state and PC gone stupid. Customs are similar ,
Wife and I got checked for Drugs on our recent visit to NZ !, and those members who know my wife will know f en ridiculous that is , they even took samples from our cellphones checking for traces. We must have been through customs about 20 -30 times in other countries , normaly get treated with more respect. Not looking forward to return to NZ next year via South America , will probably get the rubber glove treatment.

It was a big part of the reason i sold my GPz900 and got the XT, tired of loking in my mirrors/over the hill/round the bend etc etc. Not many cops on the gravel roads i now travel and XT got crusing round 100k anyway.

You're not wrong. I was thinking about that myself the other day.

They lower the threshold from 10k to zero tolerance. What does this mean? This means that my dear ma and pa, two very straight law abiding cage-driving folk, will now have exponentially increased their chances of getting busted. They don't generally exceed 110k, very infrequently they may do for passing, they don't tailgate, don't pass on yellows, don't run red lights, don't drink and drive, don't speed past school buses, but they do drive at between 100-110km/h on the open road - and sometimes as fast as 140k on big long open stretches of road when passing!!!! F***ing criminals they will soon be if the LTSA has their way. When the demerit points add up, and they lose their license/s, these are the people who will not drive. For 3 months they'll walk/catch public transport/run the other around. And they will absolutely HATE the Police for it. HATE them. Good, law abiding, middle class, middle aged people who exhibit none of the risk factors for causing accidents.

Yet me, young male, fast bike, regularly rides at far in excess of the speed limits, regularly passes on yellow lines (yep, I do), regularly risking instant loss almost every time I ride the bike, I exhibit many of the significant risk factors that the LTSA claim cause accidents. What does double demerits or lower the threshold do for me? Every time a ticket is on, I'm off. Gone. Do I get the ticket? No. Although buggering off is not an exact science, so one day I will get a nice big ticket. But that's the risk I take. And if you've now just given the cops more reason to stop me, and me more reason to bugger off, what's gonna happen here? Suddenly pursuit numbers just went up. Pursuits are dangerous. Not only have you got a bike going like the clappers, but you'll have between 1 and 8 Commodores trying to do the same thing. And most of the time, the result of that will be a big fat zero. No capture. No ticket.

If the LTSA stats are to be believed, I'm the person they should be targeting. I'm the one who should be penalised. But I won't be, it'll be the goodie goods of this country who will.

And can someone please explain, WTF will that do for road safety?

I know exactly how you feel. In the last year my father (aged 63) has received THREE speeding tickets, having never received one in his life before.

His crime? Each time it has been exceeding 50km/hr cruising down Brooklyn Hill. 61, 63 and 64km/hr.

They've lost all respect for the police. I can't wait until he loses his licence so I can give him shit about HIS dangerous driving.

Funny thing is, when I was young we used to tear around the countryside on motorcycles together and never got hassled.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

Mate the news link explains it all , imagine what they'd do to a guzzi owning hippy , hope your not planning on international travel soon . Anyway , why are you worried about breaking speed limits at your age and on a guzzi as well ?
