I know, it was last minute thing and I was going to ride to Christchurch but changed my mind.
I thought about you as I passed through Otematata but had no way of knowing how to get in touch otherwise I would definitely have caught up.
    Still, we're even now.....

Seems my trip might be in doubt ... the bike is heamoraging oil big time (its never lost any at all before) and a full cooling system boiled after a 5km journey - at an average pace of 35km/h! Seems that I might just have abused it a little too much.

    Change of plans.

To all of those to whom I have said, I will see you at Glenorchy.

I am now heading up North for that week end, riding up to and catching the ferry on 12th at 5pm.

Any one who sees an old guy limping up to Picton on a TransAlp please be kind and give me a wave. :spudwave:

Even a finger would be encouraging. Cheers, John.

Flying Dutchman, I may have a bike for you then
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Probably won't need it now - found out that the oil filter plate o-ring was pinced, causing it to loose oil (about 1.3l left out of 2.7l). Oil helps with cooling - so it will explain why it got too hot. Also explains the smell - oil was landing on the exhaust, as well as the rear tyre . Done full oil change (filter + oil + o-rings). Cleaning entire cooling system and will have to clean oil off rear tyre.

Yep... might have to treat it gently... the bike might be sending me a warning message. I wouldn't want to prove the guys that said my bike engine wouldn't survive to the next rally right.

Shit I hate money! I have flight clearance. But the piggy bank is getting pretty empty, so probably won't be going anyway. ARG!

Lets see- wises maps reckons its 529k's from my place to Glenorchy. So double that and its about 1058k. At 15 k/litre thats about 71 litres of 95. Which is what, about $1.45 a litre right? So thats about $103. How much is the rally? I could take some play lunch and a tin of baked beans for tea... couple of weetbix for brekky and my own booze.... might be do-able.... Can probably do the whole trip for under $150.....

    Whatcha think MrsB?
