Question Adventure/Duelsport riding where to go in the South Island?

Hi, i'm wanting to get more into adventure riding in the South Island but don't really know where the good places are. I've ridden the Molsworth and Rainbow Stations, Dansys Pass, Haka Track, Top of Lake Aviemore thru the Black Forest to Haldon, Lees Valley and a lot of the roads out about the Banks Peninsula. So I haven't had any real challenge so far, just nice relaxing scenic rides.
Now I'd like to hear how to get to some of your favourate places to Adventure Tour.
I'm on a '96 Honda Transalp with Givi luggage.

Also I received this email from some tourists planning a trip...
Not sure if u can help with this , we are a group of 4 brits heading down to NZ in Mar 2006 for a 10 day ride across NZ - hopefully mainly off road and trail work.

Do any of your members have any insight into good trails which would be ok on a BMW650 but also a little challenging.

Appreciate any help and/or insight into this

    Thanks
Seems they are asking basically the same question so I'm hoping some of you may be able to help both me and them.

I think if you are going to travel on the public roads - that's what you get.

The best adventure rides i have been on have been organised over private property/roads - Wellingtons's Capital Coast eg.

John Nick runs some good ones.

Other than that - i'm keen to have a look at whats up those roads into the Marlbrough Sounds region.

Give Dangerous a shout he just did some up in the Malborough area in his 4WD and had a bit of info on the tracks up that way, although if he can get through them in a 4WD they're probably not that challenging

Ken Sibly & Mark Wilson have 2 books out ... 4WD South Island ... 107 off road adventures & 93 new off road Adventures. These are brilliant referance books for what you want to do.

The new NZ motorcycle atlas lists quite a few gravel routes.
Some of my favourites: Mariua Saddle Rd, Braeburn Track, Porika Track (can be rough) Ranfurly - Roxburgh on the Onslow road, The Nevis road, Mavora Lakes, The track to the South Arm of Manapouri.

    Cheers

Alright, i've got all 3 books now. Theres a lot of reading there.
It doesnt look like i will be much help to the tourists who emailed me but i'm off on a week long road trip starting Boxing day and hope to include some of the roads mentioned so far.

I wonder if this whole thread would have gone better in a different Kiwi biker forum instead of the 'Meetings and events' area? I did not know where to put it and this is the place i've been reading most.
