One reason might be so that you don't crash on first lap on cold tyres???

Another reason might be that you have confidence to push hard right from the start, who really thinks their tyres are fully up to temp. after one lap of Taupo?

To me I cant really see the point in using tire warmers if I am using properly chosen road tires. Some of the compounds work between 10 and 60C quite well - especially for a 5 lap warm up ride round the block.

However, if I've just paid $500 for a set of slicks (and being a cheap bugger I'm not likely to do), tire warmers are really good for keeping them in the same heat cycle for as long as possible which makes the difference between making the tires last the weekend and having to put a new set on.

also remember a tyre is damaged/chewed alot more when its colder and raced around the track, i guess its more about making your $600 set of tyres go further, for each set over and over.

Plus yeah the mental thing of not going hard on cold tyres and people saying it takes 3 hard laps to warm them up properly. I cant even do a hard bloody lap let alone 3!
