    FXR Bucket

I can't seem to find the rules anywhere, other than in F5 you can have up to 50cc 2 stroke or 100cc 4 stroke, and in F4 you can have up to 100cc 2 stroke or up to 140cc 4 stroke. But in the AMCC F4 results there's guys racin' 140 AND 150cc FXR's.

I've got an FXR, and I'm keen to bucket it, make a weekend kit for it, then put it back in road trim for the rest of the week, but what exactly are the rules for FXR's in buckets? Is it okay to keep the 150cc? How the hell do you make 'em 140cc? Without permanently altering it all, aka grinding the crank etc. Carb restrictions? If so what? Where exactly are the official rules? The MNZ pdf's seem to crash my Mozilla everytime I close them so if I knew which one to go to that'd be awesome. Yeah.

    Any help much appreciated, cheers.

all the road race rules apply to buckets.
They also have suplimentary regs re track damage.
In essence anything that might hit the track in a crash needs to be plastic.
bar end weights need to be replaced with plastic bungs.
Footpegs must be fully encased in rubber or have a plastic "shou" under them. I think theyve even insisted on rear axle bolts being encased in a plastic sleeve.--Skateboard wheels are good for this.
Johm Conner is the man to talk to at amcc
try www.amcc.org then racing then buckets
New open class rules allow 150cc open class buckets

Dont know about all the F4/F5 carry on as down here we have an open class in either proddy or modified, Earler this year the 4 stroke max cc's was raised from 140cc too 150cc, so FXR's are fine for racing..... so just get out there and do it

IMHO, the cc limit shouldent have been raised as the FXR isent a 'bucket' its a factory bike.... (waiting for wise arse crack from Kickaha)
However a rooky on a FXR isent going to do to much damage but a top racer in the field on one will just clean up every time... to me buckets is just that, the good old Kiwi invention a back yard asembly of shit from several bikes.... just like my 2 piles a shit

i ride a FXR and they are no where near as compedidtive as some of the top bucket guys, they only make about 12.5 hp on a dyno (the factory claims 20) but a XR250 carb bolts straight on and gets it up to i think it was 15 hp or similar, so not to bad. the standard tyres on them are absolute bullshit in a racing environment so that would be the first change i would recommend to anyone with on of these

oh an bolt the handle bars underneath the top triple clamp so you dont feel like you are riding a chopper

but if you can get the CBR 150 ask RG100!! bout that, if you are serious try getting an aftermarket CDI so it revs higher a new race exhaust and a new carb bucket rules have been opened up to 150 4 stroke now as well

Bog stock standard apart from the rear slick and he's leaving it that way for now

Cheers guys, much more helpful than that dude on trademe, he's a total used car salesman. But yeah, current plan is to strip all fairings and maybe put on a smaller plastic fuel tank, put on good tyres, do all the things on Frosty's link and do it to it. Then if the handle bars piss me off I'll swap them over the triple clamp too, but I'll test that.

But this avo, being a mechanical engineer whos' recently befriended a hog ridin' welder by trade, thought I might look at designing a whole new frame and put the engine, tyres, spring and forks into it. Then there's no chance of me devaluing the FXR with crashes, bar rupturing the engine of course, and it'd be a total homemade bucket. With a sweet engine.

be real careful when you build your own frame... there is 1457655500000000 diferent ways to go wrong there.
