One other thing I've been wondering, is what the hell is up with those idiot road cyclists who ride 2 or 3 wide on the road instead of in a line. They're just asking to be turned into road pizza.

    what bike have you got?
At the moment I have just an oldish Reiker something rather. Works OK for the mean time, and only set me back $80. Will probably upgrade later on to a lighter bike.

As for the lycra shorts, yes I definitly have to get some, maily because I like the look...no, actually because of the padding. Spending an hour and a half, or more on a tiny hard seat does wonders to your rear end.

    Take it easy,

    Stefan

I'm fairly keen on cycling. And skiing.

In fact if it's got a pair I'm keen. Eg pair of wheels, pair of skis, pair of etc..

Yep - reccomended kit. They do the job.

I've still got 3 human powered bikes lurking (Fully suspended XC MTB, Cannondale Roadie and a wee BMX that takes me to the corner dairy) I am however, VERY out of shape! (Used to do a wee spot of racing back in the day - was an 'average' performer)

At the moment my excuse is that Mrs P has 'put away' my bike shoes. Both machines have SPD pedals. Not very fun in street shoes. Damn her efficiency. I'll keep a-lookin'

If you want some ass padding but don't want to express your gayness in the form of lycra shorts then ground effect sell a couple of pairs of shorts with padding which look slightly less fruity. www.groundeffect.co.nz

For the record, I don't agree with riding abreast either, unless the leader is moving to the back. It annoys the motorists unnecessarily, which is just dumb.

Dunno why we rode in shorts, probably because you can't go fast enough to cool down in pants. Funny how you thought it was normal, not realising the risks you were taking if you fell off. Especially when I look back, I was regularly going more than 60-70, and a couple of times over 80...

    Get a dog up ya!
*edit* actually, some cyclists are their own worst enemy.... they do ride like frikkin idiots. Feel free to 'correct' those.
The rest of us do in fact own the road, so piss off mongrel cage drivers!

Road code allows cyclists to ride 2 wide, (with some pathetic clause about not holding up traffic. Whatever.......)
If there is an obstruction to your otherwise smooth passage, the motorist should wait for a clear space before overtaking. SImple really. If it's that much of a problem, call a cop or something.
At the rise of the hand by Policeman, stop rapidly. Do not pass him by or otherwise disrespect him.

Gotz look on mine (search for the thread 'Alan rotary powered bike'). But I see over this side of the world, you can buy pedals that are normal on one side, and cleats on the other... fantastic idea!!
Queiro voya todo Europa con mi moto.... pero no tengo suficiente tiempo o dinero.....
