    Fixed that for ya.

Worst I've ever done to another vehicle while lane splitting was to clip a mirror. Their mirror didn't even move; just pushed mine out of allignment.

The worst I've done to myself while lane splitting was to put gouge into my pannier with the underside of a truck bed. Mind you, I was under foot power at the time changing from lane 1a to 2a at the lights. Oh, and I've been bitten as I mentioned earlier.

I hear ya. I sometimes come up behind a slower splitter. I'm happy to sit behind and wait until they spot me. There comes a point, however, when it's discourtious if they don't pull over and let me through. It also means they're not keeping an eye on what's going on behind them. Rather than getting upset about it though I'll just accept it; no matter what, the vehicle I'm wanting to pass always has the right of way; be that car, truck, bus or motorcycle.

I'm not talking about damage to a mirror.

Only when the gyroscopic forces of my front wheel are not keeping me upright.

It only takes one fuckwit to disregard his responsibilities while filtering, clip a wing mirror even slightly, to make the car driver hate motorcyclists for life. It's irrational but unfortunately that's what can, and sadly does happen. And the next person who filters through, even obeying the rules to a tee may receive the wrath of the now jaded car driver.

We're not exactly shone in a bright light to begin with, it doesn't take much of an excuse for certain types of people to vent on innocent blokes and blokettes, especially when they're much bigger and stronger than us. :/

    Filtering is fun
yup I have clipped the odd mirror over the years, and I bet a few cage drivers might be pissed for about 5 min....
But to build it up to such a crescendo of hateful bitterness, innuendo, mouth flapping, ball dragging, ego shouting, with in our own ranks!!
Fwark guys, go for a ride tomorrow and blow this bullshit our your asses....

I am sure you're not serious but FWIW (and I'm sure this will come as no surprise to some) I grew up in and have spent most of my life in South Auckland. Hence... rewa hard
Becoming fearless isn't the point. That's impossible. It's learning how to control your fear, and how to be free from it.

And I bet a few cagers might have been pissed for longer than about 5 min. What's your point?

Hmm, Sounds like the same response you'd get from a 90 year old driver who never goes above 80km/h, unless in a passing lane.

Nothing personal, but if it was my mirror you broke I would be looking out for you on every commute from then on. The odds would be slim, but a few people who look similar in the mirror as they split towards me might find the gap closing very quickly. Light on, dark jacket, dark helmet? Check, check, check. Oh dear. I'm sorry officer, I wasn't expecting someone to be doing that. Broken pelvis you say? Oh dear. Yes, it sounded like a punctured lung when I wound the window down to get him to move his pillion from under my wheels.

I would have thought rule number one when it comes to lane splitting is don't hit the vehicles you are splitting between? And rules number two and three. Apart from the obvious fail and fact that you have just been shown to misjudge the width of your bike, which is as basic as it comes, don't you think of the poor bastard a couple of minutes behind you who follows rules number one two and three and for an unknown reason gets slammed as he passes? If not, perhaps it is worth thinking of the tool who is a couple of minutes ahead of you who has just taken out a couple of wing mirrors and what the reaction might be when you get there.

Especially if it is me. I'd be pissed driving a car anyway. I would be doubly pissed at people riding bikes when I am stuck in a car. I would be fucking fuming if some fucking retread then took out the wing mirror.

Where did I say broke a mirror
I have removed a mirror from one car as it pushed me into a van, but clipping a mirror as slow speed does nothing other than bend mine out of the way. I have vet to accidentally break a mirror. Read the post ..clipping verses breaking....

Like I said, nothing personal. Was aimed at some of the posters who seem to think it is ok to damage someone else's 'ride'.

Anyway, getting this thread back on topic, are Madness and Skippa1 going to get it on sometime soon?

Actually I'm starting to worry he may have had some kind of medical crisis. If only he'd had the warm milk and calmed the fuck down.

Come back Skippy, this thread's not the same without you.
