Not sure if it specifies. You could always check.

We should start doing a better job of it or it might not be for much longer.

I did check - it doesn't specify keeping 'as far to the left as practical' within a marked lane.

Clearly you just make this shit up.

I quite often pull to the extreme right when travelling in lane 3 to provide as much room for bikers as is practical as in lane 3 they're splitting to my left.

Pity the lanes often aren't wide enough to fit a car and a bike in simultaneously though, eh? Otherwise there would never be any mirrors clipped at all.

I'm not going to get into a debate over the legalities of lane sharing with you because quite frankly I can't be fucked and you're not much fun. The point is pretty simple I would have thought, if you're occupying a marked lane on the motorway you don't expect to have to share it with a car, bus or truck because that just doesn't work and most bus/car/truck drivers don't have the cheek to attempt it. Bikers do and the good ones do so successfully, the unskilled/ignorant ones often fail.

It doesn't make the comparison "legit" at all you twit.

If the splitting was being observed by a police officer .... and he/she deems it to be dangerous ... an infringement notice can be issued.

And there are rules to overtaking in the same lane.

So what was the point in splitting? So you could get to work a whole 2 minutes earlier?

No, it was beat into me by the local driving instructor/policeman many years ago, chapter and verse. I see it's still there, but as a reference to unmarked roads.

Wheather or not, it's still a good idea not to obstruct traffic generally, and to keep as far away from opposing traffic as possible in particular.

Yeah, me too. I was just pointing out that a hell of a lot of drivers don't move over, and I always wonder if they haven't seen me or if they have but simply don't think. Or if they're just being cnuts.

They aren't obliged to move over though, are they?

Don't look like it. Are they allowed to block us? Hold their line? What?

Think common courtesy dictates you should make room where it's safe, eh?

In much the same way that common courtesy dictates you should only lane split if you can do so without hitting other vehicles.

I'd have thought it came under the heading of not dying, rather than being impolite.
