rock on Damon! Couldnt agree more with you, and at the end of the day its me thats out there, riding, and im more then happy with how it runs, and i understand the small risks involved with having fresh recruits so often etc, i know this aswell as every other racer, we still choose to pay our money and race. Thankyou for giving up your day, im going to make it a point from now to thank as many marshalls as i pass thru the pits between races etc. Cheers! And wicked Hoon to have you helping

Too bad most of us will still be out round the track then, but a nice Speights Distinction at the end off the day would go down well

Maybe if the NZ motorbike racing organisations actually did some promotion this would help. If you dont ride a bike or happen upon this site what kinda coverage is out there for this weekend? Nadda, piss all, very little indeed....and yet the best NZ has to offer is going to be there.

I have seen nothing on TV or in the papers that would entice anyone to come along that isnt already going. No promotion means no public support. Got to spend it to make it.:spudwhat:

i get called up on friday to find out my work for the following four days, if i get either day free i will be there marshalling.

I been thinking perhaps we should try and do a show on the racing ourselves. Especially seeing that it gets shit all coverage on TV - eg summer series at puke got coverage of nearly every race, yet how much of this will be on tele - errr might, maybe just maybe see the guy that wins the final of F1 or whatever the top grade is (the 1000cc riders).

Programs like XSTV, Performance Car TV etc are all filmed by people that do it for a love of the sport/hobby.

All we need is someone that has a decent camera we can use, someone with some presenting skills/ a real passion for whats going on and then all we need to do is interview some riders (up and comers etc) and get some good footage for the day. Thats all they do with the D1NZ stuff, and it doesnt come out half bad.

Shit if we sort ourselves out we could even get some tank/tail cams out there on the track. It doesnt have to be an A class production but atleast a taster of what could be turned into a decent series for the racing season on tele!

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

MNZ has already confirmed that there will be an hours coverage of both the Puke and Ruapuna rounds and 30 min coverage of the other rounds. This will be on one motorsport and then also on sky and prime at later dates. Thats pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Yes I know that it will probably only have superbikes and 600's but its still a fair amount.

ok.. if i was up there i would be in line for a flag.....

but that would only be untill i had my own bike to race....
what better way of getting to know the good rides?...
than waving flags at them and picking them up

in saying that if i had my shit sorted.... hard to do when i'm blond and stand to piss.....

i should join the vic m/c club and they will tell me when they hold the races...they may even GIVE me a callender .. so i could plan it...

    what a ride so far!!!!

I would be keen as to help with the marshalling BUT I sure dont want to go out there untrained. Put the wrong flag up and cause confusion or worse an accident....not for me! And it sure as hell aint fair on the racers

MD They would put u with someone experienced like they did with me.

    The more Marshalls the better.

If you can't remember the colour flag, just wave ur bloomers that would get there attention

Yes in a perfect world we would have a team of crack commando flag marshals who are genetically bred and raised from birth to be the ultimate flag wavers. They would devote their lives to making sure race events went smoothly, expecting no payment or thanks since people only talk about marshals when things go wrong.

Unfortunately the world we live in is far from perfect. Also Motorcycle racing in NZ isn't exactly thriving at the moment so resources/support is low and its unfair to point the finger at organisers who are trying their best to do the job with what they have.

However there is hope. We can all do our own bit by helping out. Its not much to ask to do the odd day here and there even if its only once a year. I like to help the club out and return the favour for all the race meets they've run for my benefit. This will be my 3rd time now and I'm confident running a checkpoint. The way they usually work it is that the newer people will be matched up with the experienced marshals with 2-3 ppl working each corner so they won't throw you in the deep end alone.
agree 100% dude...I remember the first time I met you out there...both just giving something back to the sport and we got to listen to the OLD dude on hairpin..shit he was even 20 or 30yrs older than me....cant play this weekend as pit bitch for KK on saturday and still tryin to wangle a leave pass for sunday but thanks everybody that does give their time either day and it truely is the best seat in the house
