    Great thread, Motu!

White trash is pretty much me, although I make my oppinions more public on-line than I do face to face.

And I am a 65kg, skinny, shaven headed, goatie faced weakling in real life. Hence, "White trash!"

That been said, I have won every fight I've ever been in..............................

    By at least 100 meters.

Just spent a pleasant few days crusing the South Waikato, visting folks an such.Managed to avoid a few of the more outspoken family members that I have never got on with,an in the process got to thinking about this subject and the site in general.I know a few people that have signed on and then seldom if ever take part in discussion ect.I now think Iv'e worked something out about those of us who do take part and keep things flowing,as opossed to those that don't.The one thing that stands out about a lot of us that use the site is that most of us consider ourselfs to be fairly quite in person.
On the other hand the guys I know that don't even like the site are all big mouths. One thing Iv'e been told by a guy that don't like us at all,is that he always gets talked down and would like to punch a few heads.
Needless to say that guy is a total control freak and all round mummys boy.
So it seems to me that to take part in something like this, a new set of soical skills is reqiured, seems like the big mouth, violent, control freak types don't have a place here, because nobody gives a fuck how much they big note em' selfs. It don't work.So I guess that makes the rest of us the "nice guys".
    Sounds good to me anyway.

Interesting comment Jackrat. I guess without the face to face thing no one can look intimidating and controlling and they can only see what you write.

However, as an aside I know years back when we first got e-mail at work people seemed to get into also sorts of e-mail wars because they would over-react, read between the lines and stuff and send back ever more abusive replies usually copying them to damn near everyone in the address book. As the boss of some of these guys I'd have to step in and cool them down and say things like "pick up the phone and call him" because usually in proper one on one conversation a lot of the bullshit and misunderstandings would evaporate especially if people would use words like "OK I was just asking" and the big one "sorry I didn't mean it like that". Another simple rule was if an e-mail thread got up to five links (i.e. original note plus four replies) it was time to break it off and make the phone call.

As for me, well I'm a kind of quiet but talkative chap and I don't offend easily.
    Cheers

    Merv

Well, I wear a tinted visor, but only because I kept breaking sunglasses under my helmet while commuting. Riding into the sunrise and sunset, wrong way both ends of t'day. Ho hum. When one is astride a 150, 'looking like a badass' isn't quite on the benefit list.

In real life I'm probably even more inclined to silliness and sarcasm than I am online.

You probably all have a fairly accurate impression of me by now, though. I've never had the energy to make a fake persona online, can't understand why anyone bothers.

Hope to meet some more of y'all IRL at a rideout someday, too.

well i'm pretty much on-line who i am off. i use a psuedo for my personal safety only. i usually jump into coversations without too much thought, but i've learnt to pick my battles a little better (had a wanky boss i couldn't trust). i don't profess to be a good rider, and bought the RS equally for it's stand-out value (yes pose value) as it's performance. probably why i find myself drawn to a 'busa as my next bike......, but i am drawn to expensive things - like 1. my wife, 2. all my pushbike (road and BMX) are top of the line carbon jobbies and 3. my cage is a little OTT for a runabout, but hey who cares? i like to let my actions do the talking - had a motto from multisporter cathy lynch, from when i was a multisport junkie (now i'm an ironman junkie) went:

    words are words
    talk is talk
    excuses are excuses
    performance is reality

there's no hiding on the track guys, your performance is there for all to see

Ya, I am a regular lurker who only posts when I can add to the subject. The grass is always greener on the other side and you Kiwi riders have some neat places to ride to...I learn alot about other motorcycle cultures by visiting bulletin boards, you folks are top notch! It is great to see others enjoying what I have made my lifestyle for over 30 years......jb

Buggered if I know... Firefight sounds like a guy who loves riding and gets out doing it everytime he can. On the other hand, in reality he is a guy who loves riding and gets out doing it everytime he can.
I would like to ride more, but I type faster.

This online stuff guves me a chance to participate in conversations that normally I'd miss - I'm really deaf so my circle of bike riding aquaintances is pretty small, less than half a dozen people who understand that I can be very difficult to converse with and who are prepared to make the extra effort.

Here I can "listen in" to any conversation and add my 2 cents worth. That is worth far more than most would understand.

In case anyone wonders about the userid, Pete is my name and the number is the employee number I had at IBM, and it just sort of stuck.

It's amazing how numbers rule our lives.
I still remember my navy number W23894 Though I usually only say it at ANZAC day roll call.

I remember all sorts of useless crap from many years ago, but important stuff flies out the window. Could it be the onset of that brain thing where you forget stuff, can't remember what thats called
How about: School Certificate candidate number 047846, Army number 759118.. the licence plates of most of my dads cars.. Caterpillar part numbers for 3/8" UNC bolt (3B4516 . f*ck knows why THATS stuck!)

AE2604, my first car. A white Valiant, just like in the Mutton Birds song. Wonder where it is now.

I can also rattle off all the powers of 2 up to 20 but that's pretty sad, really, and I probably wouldn't admit to it if this wasn't a faceless online forum.
