While I still enjoy the odd rock song (including some of U2's earlier stuff), I cant really get into this Nu Skool rock . . . or def metal for that matter. But each unto their own.
now now Sarge,
Aint nothing wrong with Metallica, they simply just grew into a different style of heavy. They didn't sell out, ever. If selling out is changing your musical style a wee bit then I reckon most bands out there have "sold out", bands like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, U2, Megadeth, Napalm Death, Pantera (Although they got heavier) and there list can go on forever. It's bands that don't change that get boring, look at Iron Maiden, their last 5 albums all sound the same, they are consistent, but it does get a tad boring, saying that I'm still a huge Maiden fan and have got every album they've ever made.

bands should change, if they dont they are not innovative anymore, and the band members wont get the same enjoyment..music to be into it has to be fun. most people in music want to change and experiment, music tastes change as you age anyways as different stages of life come up.. things that were life and death at one point (ie having friends at school, or being popular)
life pwns. music changes.
all the sounds i have worked on musically and lyrically have altered so much so its hard to remember the feelings that were going on in my head when i was writing back when i was 14-16.. now 23 the world is a whole different place, the old songs have lost the relevence to me now.. still great songs but not the same mind listening to them.
original ideas and innovation is what a band needs, and it needs it constantly
The only difference with the black album is the production and the fact that the songs are more thought out and they are a tad slower than the predecessor "Justice" who's production was shit anyway. St Anger in my eyes was good for the band as a whole but wasn't their greatest moment, in fact I put St. Anger and Justice as my two least favourite albums, purely from a product and songwriting point of view, funnily enough both those albums came from losing a bass player, not that Newsted contributed as much as Burton did.Originally Posted by SARGE
I suppose it's all in how you look at it, MetallicA are the greatest band in the world, all of their music is great, the real interesting thing is going to be how they sound on the next album, hopefully Lars would have realised that his drum sound needs to go back to the original sound it's always had.
Also just want to add that U2 are crap, so is Slipsnot and in 5 years time no one is going to remember Kid Rock........![]()

Ooooh, I'm a big fan of Justice, as a matter of fact. There was a few gems on it, such as One, To Live is to Die, and Justice. I will agree on Sarge on this one though, they did change when they bought in Bob Rock to produce the Black album.
I mean, the period of Metallica loosing it coincides with Bob Rock perfectly. Now that they've booted him out, I hope that they can once again make good music. For groodness sake, he even MADE the drums on St Anger sound shit on PURPOSE!?!
Burton would of kicked all their asses if he were still alive. In fact, Metallica would still be ruling if he was around.
