Once your in the requirement is a 5km pack march with 20kg weighted vest completed in under 42mins and also 40 pushsups. They don't have much tolerance for people who don't meet the requirements and by all means it's in your best interest to meet the requirement the first time you do it.

Umm, that would be for an F1 rating. It is 43 minutes, and 30 push ups for under 30's for an F2.
F2 means you get to do the thing again in 6 months. F1 will last a year.
At the end of the day EVERY troop should be able to obtain at least an F2 on any given day.......

Employment laws mean there is a procedure to deal with people once they fail, and basically you have 3 months to come up to scratch......
So, there is actually quite a lot of tolerance.

There is much less tolerance for slack workmanship though.... especially on my watch

The 20kg pack march is a joke. You can walk over half of it and still get 35 minutes. I know for a fact cause I has shin splints and it hurt like fuck!

By definition, you should be able to WALK (March) the whole thing!
I have done hundreds of them (well about 50) and can consistently do it in 40 minutes flat without running at all.

You will be surprised at how many 30+ people actually struggle with the march... Too much beer causes it!

Good on you for doing the press-ups at night in the dorm.
Guess you don't have much brass and lino to polish these days

I never saw this thread before , im blind i guess.

Went through Sea Cadet forces , reached P.O. and then N.Z.Navy as A.B on Fisheries patrol M/Ls which was awesome,
then i was sent to the original Cantebury and told the Navy to get stuffed.

Yeah Medic in the RNZAF - its an alright job, though nothing like i'd imagined.. I wont be in for more than 2 more years i'd say.

Ok, so can anyone help me with this? For the Aircraft Technician job it says you have to do the 17-week NMIT aviaton course, but what process does this follow? i.e is it Apply, Get Accepted, Do Course, Upon Passing Course do Recruit Course?

Or are you expected to do this course prior to applying or prior to being accepted? Because i wouldnt wanna do the course and then be told "oh, sorry we don't have a job for you"

And btw i'm not a senior member yet so have no idea who's blinged me

Pretty much spot on, they make you do the course because the old - "aero eng" course had too many failures and it was costing $$ to train failures. so to eliminate that you do what was aero eng now, then recruit course. the chances of u being left without a job are very very low. haha

The recruiting office still hasnt got back to me from an email i sent 4 or 5 days ago so its great to get such a quick answer elsewhere

You will find the recruiting office will most likely open this coming Monday. Most starting back then....

Upper Hutt is OK...has most shops that a bloke would want...Mitre 10 Mega, a motorbike shop (mainly dirt-bike) and a warehouse. Great riding around the region, of course the famous Rimutaka hill road. 30 minutes to Wellington city. 2 good bike shops in Lower Hutt (Motomart and TSS)

The camp has expanded and is always busy. Plenty of stuff going on. The new EOD Sqn building is lovely. Nice atmosphere in camp. PM me or e-mail: ross.heald@nzdf......

Basically I have to wait til September when they run the next PERSEL, they will then compare my results from the PERSEL board I atteneded last April with anyone who makes the grade for AWO this time around. From what I've heard they are only taking one or two AWO's so it'll be pretty tight. I'm getting on with other things in the meantime - like starting on my PPL/CPL and knocking out the theory side of things. Possibly considering ACFT Tech otherwise but don't really like the look of the new arrangement.

I was accepted into the airforce september 03 at 17 years old, did well till I hit 18. Started full time boozing, got the boot april 05 for not performing.

Joined too young and didn't take it seriously.. I would absolutely kick arse now, with the drinking I mean..

Then you should have joined the puss.
I was in the puss for a couple of years, it was going pretty good, until I went to sea, and found out a lot of qualified technicians couldn't use basic tools, know basic shit such as bolt sizes etc. That along with civvie contractors doing most of the work. I left (along with a couple of mates from the same intake) and got an apprenticeship for the same qual, which I learned more in the first week than my whole time in the puss. Was pretty gutting at the time but haven't looked back since.
