signature sizes

Hi, I was just curious, I made a signature awhile back that was about 400x60, and it was ok, I tried making another one, seeing as some people have 3 pages of song lyrics or such like, so I figured I'd be ok to make one about 500 x 75, which is still very small, but the site spat the dummy at me and said no. What is the size limit, just so I know for the future.
