Yep and interesting that Eric beat them all on the V-twin. Now if only the Duc can last the distance, but then I'm a Honda fan anyway. Miguel pulled it off again in the FX race on the CBR600RR much like last year's superbike race. The other guys must be getting pissed off with him out foxing them on the last lap - can he do it on the CBR1000RR? Also interesting to see after all his whining Mladin got in the mix anyway.

Yep, good to see 3 CBR's in the top 5. Vermeulan had a good result in race two of the SBK as well. Promising stuff.

... and as expected the headline was "Eric was smoking, then it was the Duc that was smoking and he was out".

.... and Mladin pulled it off in the face of the CBR challenge after saying his bike was so disadvantaged by the new tuning rules and how he had lost so much compared to last year. Oh well us Honda fans can go away and hide and hope for better in the series.

    Expensive meet for Aaron Yates

This just in from the AMA:

AARON YATES SUSPENDED BY AMA PRO RACING

PICKERINGTON, Ohio (March 9, 2004) -- Yoshimura Suzuki rider Aaron Yates has been suspended for one race meet and fined $5,000 by AMA Pro Racing for his actions following an on-track incident with KWS Racing's Anthony Fania during the Daytona 200 by Arai on Saturday, March 6.

In announcing the penalty, AMA Pro Racing Road Race Manager, Ron Barrick stated that Yates' behavior after the two collided was completely unacceptable. "After carefully reviewing the tapes and interviewing the corner workers and both Mr. Yates and Mr. Fania, we have concluded that the contact that resulted in both riders crashing was an unfortunate racing incident with neither rider specifically at fault," said Barrick. "However, Yates' actions after the crash are the reason we are issuing the fine and suspension."

TV video tape, interviews with the riders and interviews with corner workers confirmed that Yates kicked and head-butted Fania immediately after the crash. While it was impossible to discern what each rider said during the exchange, it was apparent that Fania was attempting to walk away from the altercation.

Barrick confirmed that Yates' AMA license is suspended for a period of one AMA Superbike race meet; specifically the California Speedway event scheduled for April 2-4, 2004 in Fontana, California. Yates will not be permitted to compete in any of the races that make up that race meet. Barrick also stated that the $5,000 fine could be reduced by 50% if Yates enters an anger management treatment program, approved by AMA Pro Racing, prior to returning to competition.

"Physically assaulting a fellow competitor cannot be tolerated under any circumstance," said Barrick. "This penalty should indicate how seriously we are taking this matter."

Barrick also noted that AMA Pro Racing continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the actions of each rider's crew members following the incident.

He was also fined $25000 by his team - American Suzuki

It's funny you should say that. I'm a member of www.stuntlife.com and I'm pretty handy at the ol' wheelies and rolling burnouts and stuff but those yanks are just a step above.

Us Kiwis never forgave him for the time he took out Aaron Slight on the start line at Laguna few years ago - remember he clipped Slight's bars and Aaron got caught up in a mess and had both his feet smashed and he had to drag himself over the wall to some semblance of safety. Well and truly ruined his season.

Yates also took out Lynda's boyfriends brother at the WSB race at Laguna last year and wrecked his ride for the rest of the year.

Why Suzuki employ him who knows? At least they have taken $25,000 back from him.
    Cheers

Found an article on another forum, Shaun Harris was due to ride his 600 and also a 1000rr at daytona after readers on another forum in the US had put up $2900 us to get him and his bikes there, Unfortunately he sent the head for the 1000 to the u.k. to get modifyed and the courier firm lost it for over 3 weeks. Shaun was not able to get there to race but i believe the money has been put aside top try and get him to other ama meetings this year.
    Luv it!
