The "BLING" thing

This thread is not a b*tch or a moan just thought I'd ask for people's opinions on the bling thing (site reputation). I like getting green rep., or bling as it is known, it makes me feel good. Or at least it makes me feel like I've contributed something worthwhile. As far as I am aware that is the extent of worth of "bling"? I ask this only because there seem to be more and more little 'buttons', principally in sigs, that say "curious?" or other such one word enticements to get the button clicked on. I mean no offence if you have one of these, I am just curious as to the reason for actively soliciting people to bling you? I say soliciting because it looks a little like bling whoring. Is it because people do not feel that what they have said is worthy by it's self? Or that they can get some self gratification to see their bling pile extend beyond others (piles)? Is there a bling ranking that I am not aware of?
It's all very perplexing although there must some simple explanation to all of this. Is this thread just a subliminal desperate cry for bling? Does my mother really love me?
I'm probably just old and don't know about this new exciting world of electronic life in a forum, so I thought I'd ask.

Na mate - I think it's one of those things - each to their own, some dish it out whole heartedly and some only for extraordinary efforts. As the recipient of bling it gives you an insight to how the issuer of the bling thinks...

most of my blings are given out for things that make me lol. I dont read the internet to get angry or dramatical so most often dont read big things like this one

basically the internet is here purely for my personal enjoyment and nothing else.
