warped rotors

got a warped front rotor and want to know if i have to get a pair or will just a second hand one do? as they expensive.
(if i can find a 2nd one)
also is it bad to ride with a warped one as i only notice it when i brake and the front shudders a bit.

Get the shop that you brought it from to replace it . Must have been like that when ya brought it maybe when it was dropped /crashed it got bent , takes some very hard brake work to warp a disc .

yeah was going to call them see what they say.
they dropped it in the shop thats why they took money off price when i bought it.
i didnt realise that was warped.

will it do any damage riding it with it warped?
it only really slightly warped.
noticed it coming home from manfield.

If its just warped from being knocked, send it to Steve at F1 Engineering.... He did one of mine for 50 bucks

Check the width of the rotors before you buy anything. I say this, coz I've got the same problem on my Tl, but coz the disks are getting close to their min width I'm getting new ones anyway coz I don't think they'll pass the next wof.

I seem to remember reading a thread on here from a number of years ago where it was suggested to strip the brakes down & make sure none of the pistons in the calipers are sticking. It was also suggested in the thread that if that was the case, the warp would gradually dissapear once the calipers were fixed. Don't know how realistic that is, but it might be worth a try if the warp isn't to bad.

changed a tyre recently, suzuki disc carriers bend real easy , they are made of cheese
good news is tho , if its just the carrier , cheese can be made straight again

Front brake judder and lock up on wet or bumpy surfaces,not a biggie...so long as the bike looks and sounds nice I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

my 99 cbr had warped rotors.. very disconcerting when braking hard! never get the confidence you need WHEN YOU NEED IT!

i went back to the shop told em .. they did replace them free...to cut a VERY long story short.

Is it a warped rotor or tweaked carrier?....... as mentioned above,it doesn't take much to bend a carrier and is easy to check and remove run out within reason.I think worse case with a warped rotor is the pistons can be knocked back at high speed and you have trouble stopping.I went from the stock 10 button SRAD/TL rotors to 8 button TLR and no problems since.

bah. It is people like you who dont realise that the warped rotor was the inspiration for modern ABS. All you need to do is learn to ride the bike with this innovative feature and you will be safer than you ever imagined.

Heh,heh,yeah,similar effect.....ABS braked cars only just pass my brake test in the wet.One of the biggest scares of my life was in a drum braked VW with oval drums - late braking from high speed (well,high speed for a VW) in the wet with a right angle corner coming up and the front wheels locked up,but I couldn't get it back under control...I'd back off,but each time I applied the brakes they would judder and lock up again,luckely they can scrub off a bit of speed sideways.

Disc rotors warp just by the construction,it's harder to stop them warping than making them warp - cut out a ring of steel and pass a gas torch over it,pretty graphic.Working in a car dealership we used to machine rotors of brand new cars...let alone ones that have done thousands of kms.Machine if possible,but not very likely on a bike,they give very little leeway between new and minimum thickness.
