Blah Dusk till Dawn ride 20th to the 21st

Hi there andrew comented to me a litlle while ago that he is suprised that I ride so much at night, and was wondering if I would organise a Night run since riding at night is so much differnt to riding in the day.

So I though ok, why dont we see if any of the other kiwibikers are interested in a quick buzz around the north island at nght. (trust me the roads seem a hell of alot differnet at night even if you know them off by heart)

If you are interested drop a post here and ask questions.

The launch point will be from Tauranga. when the sun passes the horizon, on saturday 20th march, my bike will be starting up and heading out.

and I belive the ride should take around 8 hours but thats including breaks and drink stops. and at abotu 120km/h since thats my bikes max speed. during the day, maybe 100 - 110 km/h at night

word of warning this will be my first bike run i would of organised, so any advice will be considered but I will make the final decision.

    Kasper, are you shitting us?

An EIGHT hour night ride on a GL145?! You should get to Paeroa and halfway back in that time.

Tell me you've got a second bike! Please!

If not, you're one dedicated rider and my hats off to you.

That being said, I don't think I'll make it. Hope it goes well for you guys though

Just let us know about the whole route. If its twisty enough, I will be very interested.

Yes I will be riding my GL145, and I would not post the date and time if I was shiting.

The general route I am planing at the moment (open to sugestions regarding individual roads, just rememebr at ngiht it is hard to see the cornors)

Tauranga to hamilton via kaimies (sp)

Then Hamilton to Auckland via River road which paralels state highway 1 but on the other side of the river, nice back road.

Then the state highway 1 to Auckland /Tauranga turn off (only road I know up to there, if any one knows a nicer road please advise.)

Then Auckand to Poeroa via Nagtea (road recomendations otherwise the main road)

Then Poeroa to Wahi via kiakora (sp) gorge

Then Wahi to Tauranga via the main road only as it is a nice road but I am open to sugestions.

Stops at Tauranga, Cambridge, posibley Hamilton so we stay together through the city, Mercer turn off service station area, Auckand /Tauranga turn off (to make sure every one sees that turn off) Ngatea due to long straights (alows for slower riders smaller bikes to catch up) then Wahi to wait for people still in the gorge, then Tauranga.

If people can recomend good places to stop for chocolat drink and cafine stops Very necesary will be recomended to make sure people dont get frozne to the bikes :sly: will bring the ice pick if needed )

Also the reson for so many stops is to keep every one togther since you wont be able to see any one when you get lost in the dark. most of theses roads dont have lighting so head lights only soemtiems.

also if there are enough numebrs and if people agree with it I will try and convince soem one to drive a ute/pickup truck as a crash car in case anythign goes wrong we can get the rider and bike back home. may be an incentive to the driver (not much but a thank you, ideas please)

Hand sings and alike can be agreed upon before the ride

And people are welcom to turn up earlier at my place so that they can rest before the 'butt-punisher' I recomend sleeping well and eating well before ariving for the ride. (flat mate and owner of the propertyy jsut said we can meet up here and she can set aside the garage for us but the house will be locked down though. not fun, but ill get that sorted out by then. )

apologies for speling but thunder storm going on here need ot get this done fast. lightning past and just corected the spelling. man i sound like an idiot. Ill go hide over there

You are obviously a top bloke and a dedicated biker. Great to see!

If you ever get down this way I'll bust out me poor old CG125 and we can go do a spot of Sports bike carving.

I've got a particular GSXR750 in mind that my mum could ride 'round the out side of in her mobility scooter. Eh Jimbo?

    Only jokes Jimbo!
