    Sounds like fun.

By the way - I have a question

This place we are visiting.... does it have a Warehouse Store in it?

Cos that way I can buy clothes and toiletries there and not bother carrying any luggage.....

Zapf - please put me down for one of the beds in those cabins - I hope you're talking about the $55 one.

Why don't you do a search on Warehouse on white pages and match it up against a map...

Ok... I'll count you in for one of the $55 cabins. I'll call them tomorrow and see what is available.

Come on maaaaannnn, a real biker LIVES in his/her leathers/corduras........... Hehehe There is a Warehouse store @ Kaitaia which we will be passing through towards the end of Saturdays ride. It is approx 15mins ride south of where we are staying... It may seem silly BUT have you ever thought about a backpack? The cabin that me and Custard are staying in is just that - a cabin. No linen, so we have to take our sleeping bags with us (and our ventura backpacks) I would assume that the cabins will be lockable so we don't have to carry our shit right up to the lighthouse and around till Monday (home-time).... Hope this has helped out your dilemma JSG....

So I need to buy a couple of bedsheets too huh........:spudgrr:

The backpack doesn't go well with the hump and tying it to the back of the bike is a nuisance with the piddly little hooks my bike has...... also I think the added safety and convenience of having no luggage is worth it

Sorry JSG, last 20km to lighthouse is still, and probably be for sometime yet, Gravel. The Maori up there want to keep that way. It is to stop any soft-cocks from riding up there. Harden-up dudes if you're coming North We don't have Metrosexuals up here (only Ruralsexuals , eg. sheep shagging is fine as long as you don't wear make-up)

I know what you're saying and you do have an excellent point.

But me being me, I'd rather ride from Warehouse to Warehouse buying stuff and have the convenience of no luggage than carry that stuff around.

I understand all these panniers and packs are very secure and don't affect the bike much, but I still prefer riding with as little as possible on the bike.

Right now I carry a map, pen, paper, tool kit, first-aid kit, tyre-repair kit and a rain-suit, will probably buy a small can of chain lube to add to that. All of which fit into the tail storage space...... I don't want to carry anything else if I can help it.

Hey - gotta leave now - you coming to Bruces thing ??

Gravels a bit deep at places and the stones are in a few places a bit big - 1 inch diameter..... ( from what I can remember)........ took it real slow in the cage....... and very very very (did I say very??) dusty on a hot dry day.

Deep? define "Deep". You've ridden worse. It's just the same as any stand gravel road up here (and better than some). Has been graded since I went up last. The worst thing is the tourist buses up your arse, making you think you're riding the gravel like a nana (until you gain on a "Cage" and find out that the fu*ken buses are hooning on the gravel). I'd offer to pillion any rider too soft to ride it, but feel that any rider that soft should stay in Dorkland
