Weasel I think its a great idea and support it and my thoughts have been in a similar direction for a different reason. My daughter turning 15 very soon is dead keen on getting her beginners licence and buying a motorbike for the road. I have been having a few sleepless nights over it especially when I follow the posts on Korowetere and witness a few scary acts by people in cages. She has been raised with bikes, has pillioned since she was 6 and has done some big rides with me over the years, she just loves them. For the last year she has had a DT175 that she has been hacking around our lifestyle block on which has a swamp and some steep, rough stuff as well. She has developed her basic handling skills very nicely and can handle a slippery surface, uses brakes and gearbox well and can even do jumps and really cool wheelies and can adjust her line when required. She has binned herself countless times and we have even spent time in A&E getting suspected broken arms X-Rayed and have had to bend/Weld that old dunger back into shape a few times. So I suspect she has the handling skills to blitz the driver test and I believe that every new rider should hack around a paddock on an old trailie prior to going on the road. So now she can drive a motorcycle amd will easily pass an exam but in my view she is no where ready for a licence I want to see more and now it is time to develop what is between her ears and give her the judgement skills along with road skills to ride safely on the road. I need to do decide on which bike and I am going to settle on, something benign like a GN250 appeals as I feel that the GSXZZRCBR (whatever) 250 rocket ships are not that suitable for beginners as I don't want to see her missing out on some valuable road skills because she is struggling to keep up with a rocket ship. Make the bike easy to ride and let her concentrate on the big picture of what is happening around her on the road seems to be right to me. Now a proposal such as yours Weasel sounds like a good idea to get her into riding with like minded people and I hope that she can attend something like this in the future. Can't come on the 29th as I'm working but would love to follow along on anything like that in the future.
I can volunteer my property for those that want to bring thier old trailies out and brush up or gain a few basic handling skills PM me if you want to.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

*sigh* Like robnz, but helping the organiser, I guess I will have to constantly monitor the roads... damn...

Sandstone Rd is nice for err.... keeping to the limit

But we can also head back in several other directions... must just see where exactly the road works are, and correct the end of the route from there. Basically, we'll head back to Clevedon from fush and chups, so we can either go through twilight, but turn towards alfriston, or go back along the coast, or head to the motorway...

What's happening here is GREAT! I'm a newbie rider and took a familiar corner a little bit too fast after having my kr150 for not even two months. Being a poor student, I was still paying dad off for the bike, and couldn't afford leathers etc so I was lucky that I fell off i slid along GRASS and into a big tall fence that stopped me from going over a bank into this big factory place.

To get away with only grass burn on my arm an a few little cuts on my leg after falling off my bike at 60km/hr+ in shorts and a rugby shirt I consider myself VERY lucky. As I said, it was a familiar route I was taking and felt confident/unstoppable. If you're a newbie and can attend this then I'd DEFINATELY say go for it!!! I would love to goto this event but I live in New Plymouth so anyone down in the Naki that would want to do something like this I would REALLY appreciate it!! Bikes still in shop for another 3weeks so anytime after that would be good. PM me if there's anyone out there that'd like to help me out

Good on ya Weasel for organising this!! Hope it's a great day for all who attend

    Thumbs up Keen bean

Assuming the crew at Coleman suzuki have my bike back to me i would be mad keen for an educational ride close to the Auckland region. Maybe will teach me how to take right hand corners... um better.

I live in Manukau, so if you want, get off at the Manukau off-ramp (northbound) and I will meet you at the end of it, and lead you the rest of the way - There is a slim chance I may not be able to make it, so you may need to organise a Plan "B"
It's been a rough day. I got up this morning, put on a shirt and a button fell off.
As I ran out the door, I picked up my briefcase, and the handle came off.
Now I'm afraid to go to the bathroom.

Your meeting time/departure and place need to be made more noticeable in the homepage and calendar posts.

Damn! Is anyone going from West Auckland? I freely admit that I am a big girly wee's when going to places that I don't know where I am going and I tend to panic (do this in the cage as well) So if anyone from the Westside is heading out...Can I tag along????

Sounds like a good day for us newbies. I will do my darndest to be there. Do you know that the BP at Botany Downs ( the one on Botany Rd opposite Kings Plant Barn ) has closed? Went past this morning and the pumps have been ripped out and all the signs taken down, doesn't look to be reopening any time soon. Might need to find somewhere else to meet because the whole forecourt / carpark is fenced off.
