Somewhere along the route (I ride by sight, not road names - but there is a petrol station just before) we turn right, and the road takes us back to Clevedon.
Yes, theres two turns to the right you can take, the first goes to Hunua Falls, has more corners, then you turn right at the tee onto Monument road that leads to Clevedon. I think this is the one you mean.

The second, 1 to 2km further down the road goes directly onto the road that becomes Monument further down, can't remember the name either!!

Sounds like you guys have it well covered!! ( and I'm all into detail!! )

    Sounds like fun

Awwwwww.......Can I come toooo? Only one problem I need a plane ticket!

We have motorcycle safety schools popping up here like mushrooms. Everyone and their grandmother is starting one up, lately, demand is so high now. One college here is so full they have a 18 month waiting list.

Why don't you all get together and start 'er up? You would only help noobs like me who thought "oooooo, now I can ride" once you get the written test out of the way......it isn't so easy once you are on the bike, in traffic, with every idoit cage driver infront, beside and behind you.

You are completely right, you shouldn't be allowed to ride a bike until you have some sort of safe riding course under your belt first.

Here (Ontario, Canada) they have a graduated licensing system, just like with the car driving. You have to get an M1 licence (written) good for 30 days
(except that you can go out now and buy the biggest, baddest, fastest bike and ride it, without ever having ridden before, who made that rule? The organ donation society?). Then you take a motorcycle safety course and if you pass then you get an M2 license (Good for 5 years apparently) But you eventually can apply for an M ( the last one and good until forever) after 12-18 months of riding but you have to do it with the ministry or you can do it through the motorcycle safety riding school.

Do you have something like that there in NZ?

What you are doing it great, if you already rode, how did it go?

My first bike, a Kawasaki ZXR 250C, arrives on Monday the 23rd.
Assuming my 0% riding experience doesn't get me killed getting to the venue... I'm in.

Okey dokey. Time to update some details...

We're looking at running two speed groups on the ride, one at 100k for those that are comfortable, and a slower speed of 70ks for those who wish to do that instead.

Now comes the disclaimers... please realise that whilst myself and Gremlin are organising this ride we will not be held responsible in any way for any speeding tickets / fines you may incur as part of this ride... if riding at 100ks breaks your license conditions then it's your choice, sorry but gotta cover my ass...

Secondly... this is a group ride which we are organising to try and teach the newer riders some skills that will keep them on the road, if the worst should happen and you end up intimate with the road then we cannot be held liable for this either... common sense really.

So now all that guff is outta the way, I can relax and get some more preparations in place.

    I see a lot of people have registered to go, and frankly I hardly know any of you, therefore if you could just drop me a short PM with some details;

    1. Skill level - Trainer / Learner / Just along for the ride
    2. If you're volunteering to be a trainer, do you know the route enough to lead a small group, or would you prefer to be tail end charlie to keep an eye and point out any mistakes / areas for improvement.
2b. If you're a learner then which speed group would you be comfortable in (this is not final and can be changed during the day if you're having problems)

Excellent... once I've got an idea of this information we'll see how many groups we need and of what size.

    That'll be all

    Hi there,
Congrats on the new bike!! Hope you'll get lots of practice in before next weekend. I did my first miles in Dannemora - there are lots of good cul de sacs you can practice in to get your basic handling skills refined before adding the distraction of traffic. Without wanting to put a dampener on things.... group riding, ie other bikes, can also be a distraction, early on. So get out there and practice so you're ready for Sunday. I'm sure you'll learn a lot on Sunday ... and rides don't come any handier, than meeting at BP Chapel Road!!

If you don't have any riding friends yet, want to know some good quiet roads in our subdivision, or need any help, PM me ( ie. Send me a private message - click my name at the top left of this post etc ).... I'm at most 5 mins away

    Thank you for your welcome.

I have laboured many hours at work on mapping out a suitable track around Dannemora, which will be submitted to Dorna sometime next year. It will be an exhilarating GP where no-one will be allowed to change out of first gear, except for me, legendary founder of the track, who will be allowed to also use second. If by some chance, in one year I have stumbled upon third gear, then I will be allowed to use that and all other riders will be promoted to using second gear if they are willing to risk it.

I will endeavour to practise lots before next Sunday, but due to a possible flaw in my track design I may only know how to turn right and not left. No, my track does not consist solely of a roundabout.

    Bloody good idea though.

I'd be interested. My tyres are shot so a slow ride would be good for me.

I am a bit upset with the number of accidents that I have been aware of recently. Including my own about a year ago.

So would be glad to pass on any tips that I may have.

Oh I have just seen the post about tell me who you are/expereince etc. 20 yrs riding and still alive!

    Reconnaissance Ride

Just set up a reconnaissance ride for the Saturday, day before the actual ride for learners. This ride will not be for newbies, but if you wish to help out, by doing the route before hand, you might be able to help by leading a group on the day.

    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...ad.php?t=23551

I'm currently trying to make a map of the entire route, hoping to get it up sometime later on tonight.
