    South Island tour Length (Poll)...

Right.... so all this talk about SI tour and likes... and we are now in 2006. March and April is not that far away....

So I thought we might start getting some planning underway.

For those of you who are interested can you please show via the Poll how many days would you have for the SI tour.

    And... put into the thread
1.) Your perfered number of Km's / day
2.) Would you just like to ride the entire time OR spend some time at major locations to soak in the views... (e.g walk up to Fox Glaizer, Milford sound cruise... etc)
3.) Would you be happy staying in back packers or Motels?
4.) Places that must be visited?

yea... 400kms is not too bad... that is sort of the k's you'll settle down to after a weekish of riding. At the moment no one... can't you see I am trying to organise a KB tour?

We're going over Easter and Anzac day - 11 days in total. But we're only doing the northern half at this stage. Nelson - Hanmer Springs - Waipara - Akaroa and wherever else we have time for.
Last Feb we did around 350 k's per day, the longest stretch was 420 odd, but that left the wife's botty a little tender.

    Hell Yeah

I am definitely in. Don't forget to get Paul_in_nz's input, I think he was looking into that, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to do all the organising, or even any as he did the last trip's legwork.

The number of km's does not factor in for me, so I'm easy there. I would prefer if the emphasis could be on the enjoyment/sights of the locations we stop at, rather than riding for ages, stopping only to sleep then leaving again. Another option is for people who don't want to stick together in one whole group, is to have an itenery so they could meet up at certain places at the agreed time (as suggested last year when this trip was thought up).

Of course it's still relatively early days, so I can't say for sure if I am attending. It should be fun though.

I just did a very quick tour of the SI. Started on the 27th Dec - went Chch, Mt cook, twizel. 28th - visisted a coucple of cousins Omarama & Kurow and went on down the Dunners. 29th Dunners - Wanaka with a stop off at St Bathans and did the Crown range road. 30th Went to Fox Glacier and was intending on staying the night, but armed only with a small tent to battle the rain I decided to pull the plug and return to Chch (I wouldn't recommend 700+km in a day - especially in the rain). 31st went back to Castle Hill for new years. Pretty good time all in all.

Niether - flatmate has family batch out there which we comandered. I can't exactly remember what happened that night but I woke up in the morning in my tent in a middle of a clear field. Through collective recollections, it appears we demolished 3 dozen, most of a 4.5L bottle of rum, and anything else alocoholoc which was lying around... well that was 4 of us, I dunno what the other guys & gals there drank.
