Ah, the good ol' "This-PC-thing-has-gone-too-far-and-ruined-everything" chestnut!
I think the most offensive thing in general is how easily we are swayed by moronic cliches and allow ourselves to occupy nonsensical 'polar positions'. Intelligent debate is missing from the media these days.

Anyway, come back to me with that chestnut (I quite like chestnuts) the day that the boys on MTV are showing as much skin as the girls, wiggling their bits at the camera as much, and there's a 'Calvin Klein Posing Pouch Modelling Show' on the telly.

PS: Oh, and the day you have to work that extra bit harder in order to be taken seriously because you are a male; whichever is sooner, really...

Cut and paste from feministrants.com I presume?

Some day you lot will just have to accept that us blokes are designed to respond to visual stimuli and Women are pretty effectively designed to provide it. It's fine for individual women to use it to get what they want, but not for advertisers to push the same buttons? No hang on, I get it, the problem is that we've learnt just to eat the scooby snack and not do the trick!

Boring pointles debate. Men will never change as we're born this way. Without our desire, the human race would die out.

Back to the subject at hand. Lusty, busty girlies.

This is the reason Spank is great, thanks
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Well spotted. I always have a look at feministrants.com when I'm due on- or stringthemupbytheirnastysweatyballs.com if feeling really hormonal.

Look, as I said; I have more of an issue with lazy advertising, and its ugly twin, lazy thinking.
Yes, men respond to the sight of naked women. Is this bad? Well, the human race would be in trouble if they didn't!
'Individual women using it to get what they want'? Well, to be honest, that's a wee bit sad of them I suppose..? Sorry if this leaves some of you feeling manipulated and in need of a cuddle, but don't tar us all with the same brush, please.
As to 'women being designed to provide [visual stimulae]', (and I know I'm kind of co-opting your meaning here), it's funny how pissed off some guys can get when women are less effective at this, our main function. I mean, if I had a dollar for every time Helen Clark got sh*t for not looking all pretty and feminine I think I'd be able to afford a half decent bike..!

Anyway, just because feminism (like many 'isms') became a bit of an entrenched cliche does not invalidate everything they ever had to say. And I hate to burst your bubble, folks, but I'm not actually anti-pqrn. Some of my best friends are pqrnographers, strippers and prossies. Most of us do like a little sauce- but do you want it on everything..?

    - I couldn't agree more

I'd say that's balanced off by the stereotyping of men as dumb (See Homer in the Simpsons, the lead male figure in most sitcoms, many of the ads involving products "otherwise requiring a professional" with the implied "see, even my husband can do this - it MUST be easy).

Phoebe on Friends is the only female lead with a dumb role, and has a conterpoint in Joey so it's all balanced off.

A particular favourite pastime I have is to swap roles in ads and see how acceptable they'd be. My favourite example is a Rashuns Ad from a while vback. Car load of cute late teen girls driving down a country road - past a guy eating Rashuns. They look, stop, back up and take everything off him except his boxers, take his Rashuns, and drive off laughing leaving him looking bewildered.

A carload of guys stripping a single girl down to her briefs on a country road then driving off laughing would cause an uproar.

... and... just to state my case - I quit like the ad. It's improper, and cheeky and one could get offended by it... but I just like it for what it is.

How about this - we turn the telly to another channel if we don't like what's on it?
